Gonanche cow/calf clinic
scheduled December 18
The extreme drought of the
past three years has forced
producers to make severe culling
decisions in their herds. Overall
it is estimated that at least one-
half of the cow herd in
Comanche and surrounding
counties has been sold because of
the lingering drought conditions.
Now that rains have come to the
area and more are forecast, beef
cattle producers have some
decisions to make regarding
replacements. What kind of
cows do you need, what about
supply, what bull do you breed
with, what should you do now
that you don’t have cows? These
and many more are all questions
that producers face and need
answers for. To help answer
these questions producers can
attend the Comanche Cow Clinic
or (CCC) to be held Monday
night at 6:00 p.m. December 18th
at McDougal’s Livestock
Auction in Comanche on Hwy.
377.
The CCC or Comanche Cow
Clinic is a joint effort of the
Extension Livestock and Range
Committees in both Brown and
Comanche Counties. The CCC
will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a
great sponsored beef dinner and
the program will follow. To
preregister please contact the
Brown County office at 915/646-

HOSPITAL SIGN COMPLETED: Work on the hospital sign began in early spring. Weldon Kirby of
Lometa was contacted to buy the rock. According to hospital administrator Evan Moore, “Kirby, a former
teacher at Gustine when a young man, has fond memories of Comanche, still has family and friends here,
and wanted to donate the rock. Ernesto Sandoval, local master rock mason, did a beautiful job of laying
rock.” He, too, refused payment, saying, “This is my community and my hospital and I want no payment.”
Stainless steel letters on the sign were cut by Frank Nolin of Tifton, Georgia, formerly of Comanche.
Moore said, “The Hospital Auxiliary and all of us at Comanche Community Hospital thank each one who
has helped in any way to make the new sign a reality.” Pictured are (left side) Nawana Lochndge, Fernando
Sandoval, Bemie Chavarria, Ernesto Sandoval; (right side) Braulio Morales, Eusebio Sandoval (“Chevo”),
Daymond Power, Evan Moore and Bill Parker. (Not pictured Antonio Sandoval.) chief staff photo
