—APPRECIATION—
The pupils and faculty of
S. L. A. take this means of
thanking Mons. Netardus for
his interesting opening speech.
His words meant much to the
actors who, one and all held
the interest of the audience.
The evening was a crowning
success to the Senior Class.
We also wish to thank the
kind listeners for their co-
operation and showing up in
such large representation.
We thank the Patek’s band
for furnishing the nice music.

ing completion and we hope
to have a dedication on the
occasion of the Open House
in May.

EIGHT VICTORY
The Cardinals were retired in one,
two and three order in the first inn-

different story. Rosenauer opened the
second inning with a sizzling single.

single, Janak grounded out advancing
Rosenauer to third. Meyer came

Janak who pushed the pill over
the plate allowed five hits and one
run committed on an error, when a
player tried to steal third.
The Sweet Home Boys pushed in
their lone tally in the sixth inning.
The final score was:
Cardinals 0 4 0 0 2 1 7

The Month of Our Mother
The loveliest month of the
year is being ushered in by
the appreciative and needed
April showers.
The lovely month of May
is doubly welcome to us as
children of May, because May
is the month of our Blessed
Mother Mary, whom we joy-
ously and lovingly hail as
“Queen of the Angels, Queen
of the May.”
Shortly before his death,
our Lord Himself gave Mary
to the whole human race to
be its Heavenly Mother. Look
tng down at His sorrowing
Mother and St. John, who
represented mankind, Jesus
said: “Behold thy son; be-
hold thy Mother.” Mary has
always been a true mother to
us, watching over our wel-
fare and aiding us in times
of distress and danger. Dur-
ing the happy month of May,
set aside for special homage
to her, we gladly crown Mary
as our queen and deck her
altars with the rarest and
fairest of flowers. Her loving
children attend daily Mass,
receive Holy 'Communion in
her honor, and try their veryj
best to grow more and more;
like Mary, the purest and;
best of all the Saints.

By T. H. McDonald
Supt. T. H. McDonald represented
the Lavaca County Unit of the Texas
State Teachers Assn, jti Houston at
the meeting of the Southeast Texas i p, *’
Unit composed of thirty four coun- -LuOne Jio.
ties. The teachers ana school of-
ficials met Thursday afternoon at 2
o’clock for their business session. The
adoption of a new constitution was
consumated after much heated debate
led by Supt. Geo. P. Barron of
Yoakum and Miss Ve». Strong of
Houston opposing Mr. H. L. Mills of
Houston and Dr. James G. Gee dean
of Sam Houston Teachers college.
Mr. Mills and Dr. Gee were members
of the constitutional committee. The
final vote on the constitution de-
feated Mr. Barron and Miss Strong’s
amendments, it was accepted as pre-
sented by the constitutional committee.
In the business meeting-Supt. G. M.
Sims of Port Arthur was elected Presi-
dent for the coming year.
The program arranged by President
Floyd Betts of Wharton was one of
the best ever presented at a divisional
meeting. The Wharton High school
Band and Orchestra, the Texas Luth-
eran College Capella Choir and the
Southwestern University Choir and
the San Marcos Baptist Academy
quartet rendered a .most delightful
musical program. Dr. Merle Prunty
led an array of excellent speakers on
present day education and educational
problems. Supt. L. A. Woods t^oke
to the teachers ' but interest laggeu
because of the political tempo given
to his speech.
From the evidence gathered by the
presence of the candidates for the
State Superintendent office, the race
will be comparable to that of the gov-
ernor. Mr. LeMay, Mr. Woods and
Mr. James were soliciting the vote
and influence of the teachers.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Canon
and grandchildren, Roscoe Jr.
and Marie, also Mrs. E, J.
Kempe spent Sunday in Aus-
tin.
