Methodist Aid Meets [Destructive Fire At Baylor U

Ap Society held their monthly
meeting last Friday afternoon
at the-home of Mrs. A. J. Blobm.
A hymn opened the session, fol-
lowed by prayer and scripture
reading by the president, Mrs.
J. C. Habermacher.
After the usual business Mrs.
H. H. Hepler led the Biblical
lesson.
A pleasant social hour was
then spent. Delicious refresh-
ments of cake, sandwiches and
coffee were then served, for
which a neat sum was realised-
Mrs. W. Wendt'.and, Jr., gave
two piano selections and ^Mrs.
W- H, Pkygemann a few7 /vocal
numbers.
The members of the church
who have not united with the
Aid were given the privilege of
being present. All declared the
occasion to be a most cr joyab.’e
afiair.
The next meeting will be held
with Mrs. J. C. Blohra as hostess
on March the first -at three
thirty o’clock.

ing in the-dome of the building,
fire this afternoon swept through
the magnificent Carrol Chapel
acd Library of Baylor University
causing an estimated loss of be-
tween $200,000 and $250,000.
President S. P. Brooks of
Baylor said after the fire had been
gotten under control that it
would cost S250..000 to replace
the structure if it became neees

up. He estimated the loss on
the contents at approximately
$51,000. Insurance to the amount
of $100,000 was carried on the
building and its contents.
The fire is believed to have
been caused from a spark from
a furnace used by metal workers
in sepairing the roof of the build-
ing.

Immediately after the cere-
mony the Darby returned to the
residence of Mr, and Mrs. John
F. Kasper, with whom the bride
has made her homo for a number
of year's, where a palatable two
course wedding breakfast was
served.
The bridal couple then left in
tlreir car for a brief visit to San
Am ton io.
In the evening a number of
friends-gathered at the Kasper
home and arranged an attractive
display of pretty and ^useful
presents consisting of china, cut
glass, a'uminum and linen to
greet the bridal l arl^y on their

has made the school premises fo

ket ball team made a surprise
appearance on the school campus
for a try at the championship
cake. Our boys stepped into
Houston, Texas. Feb. 7.—Cath-
olics should take active part in
municipal, state and national af-
fairs as well as in strictly church
matters. Much of the misunder-
standing of'which Catholics com-
plain is due in large measure to
the fact that they eld not partici-
pate enough in public affairs.

ed the time out, the score was
found to be 84 and 34 in fayor of
Shiner. This victory makes the
Shiner High School Basketball
“Quintet” eligible for the dis-;
trict tournament.

The Shiner High School bas-
ket ball team won the champion-
ship of Lavaca county by defeat-
ing Halletisvi'le tossers 84 to 15
on the local court. The Shiner
team has not lost a game this
season.
