CHRISTMAS PARCELS.

Be sure your parcels are pro-
perly addressed and securely
tied, f
Don’t forget to place your re-
turn address on every package.
By complying with these in-
structions, much delay will be
avoided at the window.
If parcels are mailed before
noon it will be a great conveni-
ence to the loca1 force at the Post
Office as there is very little busi-
ness during the morning. At
the same time those havins par-
cels to mail will save themselves
the annoyance of having to “line
up” and wait as the noon and
afternoon trains make the busi-
ness during the afternoon very
strenuous.
An exceedingly cold norther
blew in on us last Tuesday
morning and the temperature
dropped rapidly to the freezing
point.
Yoakum, Tex,, Dec. 7.—Yoa-
kum had as a guest Saturday a
visitor reported to be the tallest
scldier in the A E. P, in the per-
son of Sergeant Homer H. Parks
of Nashville, Tenn. He is here
visiting a cousin, W. W. McCor-
mick.
Sergeant Parks has the dis-
tinction of haying been congratu-
lated by both President Wilson
and General Pershing. He led
the grand parade through Paris
on Dec. 28, 1918. He was best
man at Sergeant Alvin C. York’s
wedding,
He was also one of the number
that attempted to capture the
kaiser in Holland for which he
9^ ’ and his companions were court-
martialed and sentenced to be
“shot,”
HUEBNER—RUHMANN
Christmas Shopping seems to
be pretty brisk in Shiner during
the past week.
The Gazette has been inform-
ed of the marriage of Mr. P. J
Huebner, Jr., to .Miss Mary
Ruhmann of Colorado County
and finds that Mr. Huebner is a
son of one of our prominent
farmers of Lavaca county and
Miss Ruhmann is the youngest
daughter of Mr. G- C. Ruhmann,
Sr., one of the oldest settlers of
Colorado County and a brother
of Mr. E. P. Ruhmann of Shiner.
All of these people are like home
folks and we feel that we should
give this matter some publicity
and wish the young couple much
happiness and prosperity.
the dark as to the shower. About
four o’clock she walked to Mrs.
Messer’s home, expecting to
have lunch and upon entering
the home, the strains of the wed-
ding march from Lohingrin,
played by Miss Stella Wolters,
greeted her and she stood sur-
rounded by numerous friends all
extending happy congratulations.
The gifts were displayed on a
library table. A background
was formed of banked ferns and
a large gilded horn of plenty, out
lined and interwoven with grace-
ful myrtle. The touch of color
and also the Christmas season
was suggested by a large potted
Poinsetta, whose radiant blos-
soms cast a note of good cheer
over all.
The gifts pouring from the
horn of plenty filled the table to
overflowing and all around and
beneath were tokens of love, es-
teem and appreciation. Beauti-
ful cut glass, silyer, linen and
China were in eyidence.
Misses Emily Schmidt and
Ella Schram formed a guard of
honor to the bride and led the
way to the dining room where
punch and cake was served.
Mrs, S. A. Thulemeyer presided
oyer the punch bowl and Ella E.
Plageman, in a very pleasant
manaer, spoke the bridal toast:
“LoveLas walked with^<^i4ay by day;
feet
You who were always glad and
sweet.
Then fill the cup, fill high! fill high!
To the bride that is to be
Happy and smiling and fair.
The bride's cake was cut and
to Miss Stella Wolters fell the
ring, Miss Matilda Hollmann .the
button, Miss Christa Moackel
the dime and Miss Ella Schramm
the thimble.
Indeed all went merry as a
bridal bell and every one seemed
in the gayest of spirits and en-
joyed the occasion to the fullest.
Miss Matilda Hollman presi-
ded over the bride’s register and
the fallowing guests were pres-

Shoots Wile Then Kills Self.
Yoakum, Texas, Dec. 6.—A
woman hovers on the verge of
death, her husband is dead and
the tenant farmer who did the
shooting is dead by his owd hand
as the result of long standing
trouble between Joe Valegura
and John Krumm his tenant,
culminating Saturday morning
here in a one-sided shooting af-
fair. Around a corner of Vale"
gu'ra’s house Krumm emptied
a shotgun into the owner, killing
him as he drove home on a .16 d
of hay. The murderer then
turned on Valegura’s wife and
sent three bullets into her body
from a .38 caliber reyolver.
