FRIDAY, HEP. HO, IHH7.
THAT LIQUOR PLANK.
The cry which has been raised in
favor of reading tlio Prohibition-Dem-
ocrat* out of the Democratic party,
because their economic views were
not in harmony with the Anti-prolii.
bition-Democrats, may lib a good e-
imiigh passlime for political novices
and verbose stump speaker, but it is
not, nor has been a cry winch the
Democratic party at the next critical
convention can afford to heed. A
fair warning boys! Think twice before
you act. There is not the shadow of
a doubt in our mind that certain
members of the Democratic party were
scheming for self aggrandisement
—to have the heads of their political
troublesome rivals chopped off.
These are theones, in many instances
who are clamoring for a liquor plank
in the platform of the Democratic
party. It is to bo hoped they will
be most gloriously set down on in the
primaries and conventions. Their
little game is a* plain as a nose on a
man face, and the hoys ail understand
it. ‘ United we stand divided wefali.’
Come boys, lay aside all self aggran-
disement to the detriment or down-
(all of the Democratic party. At pres-
ent, Prohibition is a dead issue—dead
as a door-nail. The f llei’Honk is at
peace with the world, and does not
wish to kindle a hatred feeling in the
hcnit of any man, or stir up any ani-
mosity. Let's look to tlie future;
there is nothing in the past for us; to-
morrows sun may never rise again;
let's joi u bunds and lie a mighty baud;
roll up, as usual, a large Democratic
majority for our nominees, from Pres-
ident down next year. Lav aside all
personal perjudice and work for the
continued perpetuity of the lime hon-
ored principle of the Grand Old Dem-
ocratic Party. Wo have often heard
from the anti quarters that the Demo-
cratic party was broken in twain; Inn
our honest opinion is, that the Dem-
ocracy of the Slate is not injured.
It will no (?) statesmen who have re-
ceived a death blow—ami not tile
Democratic parly. Some of the pal-
tins who insisted the party was
ruined, we have no hesitancy in say-
ing, wished it that way. They will he
doomed to disappointment. Thu
next election will tell the tale.
Texas Democracy is an enormous
body. All the sages cannot hope to
get loaves ami lislies enough The
policy of some of the hold, hungry fel-
lows is, In push Coke, Bengali, Max
ey and their like oil the platform.
I'nke out a [dank and let these drop
through, us it were. Then these bold
ones will proceed to enjoy nil the re-
freshments. Their appetites have
crazed them.—Dnllai Herald.
We entertain great fears that these
hold (?) hungry (?) hot-headed, (?) fel-
lows will be sadly disappointed in the
next convention. They should not lose
sight of the all important fact that the
people somilimos speak in their pri-
maries.
More barnyard sense and iess flip-
pant nugaeity in the diaeiisston o(
public questiona is, and has been in
constant demand. It is greatly need-
ed.

Kev. M r. Sam Allen preached an
Interesting sermon at tlie school
house on the 18th last. The talk
was weighty and to tho point: “He
not deceived, and what wo how, that
shall we reap” was made to glow
with Words of counsel und moral
courage. Ho ahowed clearly and
conclusively, that it was very diffi-
cult lor a man-to practice dccep'iou
on liis friend, neighbor, or himself.
Deception sinks buck from knowl-
edge like darkness before tlie ap-
proaching sun. It ia tho cunning,
sly foxy toil of the demagogue; tlie
basis ot hypocracy; tho companion
of theft und the lather of wicked
ness, V\ e venture tho assertion
tlint, some parents practice decep-
tion with their children from infan-
cy to beyond the years of accounta-
bility. The child is cfec-lvod about
something to keep it quiet or per-
haps some question is not answered
truthfully, because it is feared that
it will become noisy about it. One
tael upon another, ecilld he onuuie r
uled until it could bo shown that
some children are reared in decep-
tion. “Wliul wo sow, we shall
reap;” if it bo deception, wo will
reap tulsliood, trainl ami sorrow,
\ child reared to deception, if he be
a merchant, will have u tendecy to
put pc-us in coffee, sand in the sugar
and tallow in the butier, if a man-

wool, uiuku it into cloth and sell it
as genuine lambs wool; if a druggist,
