i The First Christmas
In all Christian countries, Christ-
mas is celebrated as the anniversary
of the birth of Christ. The time
when the Christmas festival was first
ebserved is not definitely known, but
finally, the twenty-fifth was univer-
saly adopted.
The first Christmas was spent in
giving presents and singing
Christmas carols. When the pagans
•f Northern Europe became Christ-
ians, they made their evergreen trees
a- part of the Christmas festival.
There beautiful trees were decorated
with gilted nuts and apples in imi-
tation of the stars. This was the
•rigin of the Christmas trees which
have' made Christmas a greater joy
for the boys and girls throughout
•he Christian territory.

Notorious Characters
We call attention this week t >
Grace Nell Moore, the • president of
the junior class. Grace Nell is the
only girl of her class, therefore, she
has a great responsibility — helping
the boys carry on their class work
She is a good sport and a friend to
all her associates. She is also one of
our star basket ball players..
This makes her ninth year in
school. She has gone to Beattie ail
her school life. Grace Nell intends to
b* a Home Demonstration Agent in
future life. 1
From an interview with Grace, we
learn that her favorite sport and
hobby is basketball. He# 'favorite
subject is Spanish.
She says Zanette is her ideal
friend. ——j
To her the biggest pest is a tattle
Beattie met Dennis of Parker
county in the final game Saturday
night. Displaying the same splen-
did team work they were able to
bring home the winning trophy and
individual gold basketballs for each
member of the team by defeating
Dennis 39-21.
We congratulate Stevens, "guard,
and Loudermilk, forward, for being
selected for the first all-tournament
team and Stevenson for her place on
the second all tournament team.
Those from Beattie who accompan-
ied th% girls on this trip were happy
to hear the many corn piinventarv

Beattie girls' playing, their sports-
manship, and their conduct both at
the games and in the hospitable
homes of the Millsap people.

“Puppy Love”
We were under the impression that
love is a bug, but Mr. Lightfoot says
after close observation he has discov-
ered it to be a disease, and a very
contagious one, too.
It savns to affect each victim in
an «.ntirely different way. While it
urges some to turn in their ball
suits, others are inspired . to make
“bigger and better” players.
Mr. Lightfoot has been operating
an “anti-romance" campaign for the
last few days, which seems to be
having the dekired effect. There ire
still a few sighs and sobs to be
heard, but if they don’t take a back-
set there is an excellent chance of re-
cover)', and who knows ? They may
live happily ever after!

Mr. Kelley! we like eggs scram-
