the girls at the afternoon .tea when
they meet on a one-to-ooe basis and
then they will score the gifts after
they have made their stage
appearance. The totals are
combined to determine the winner.
At no time are the Judges allowed to
compare scores and the score cards
are taken by one of the members of
the festival committee. The festival
has made changes in the scoring for
many years and feel they have one
of the best contests and one that is
fair to every girl. After all, we want
the girls to enjoy the contest as It is
for them.
The girls are scored on beauty,
personality, general appearance,
and poise.
The 11 lovely girls running for

PARADE DAY....
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5
Everybody loves a parade!!!! The
Peach and Melon Festival parade is
one of the best in this area.
Parade time is 7:00 p.m. The
parade forms around the high school
and the Perkins Middle School.
Those that are entered to be Judged
will need to be in line by 5:00 p.m. as
all Judging is done before the
parade. Judging before the parade
gives the winners a chance to show
off their trophies and ribbons as they
go by in the parade.
This year Larry Simpson will
serve as announcer of the parade.
This station is on Main Street at the
corner of Reynosa and Texas
streets Larry has done this for the
festival several years and we do
appreciate his cooperation.
It is tradition that the chairman of
the festival lead the parade and this
year that will be Dennis Otwell.
Dennis has been a festival member
for four years and worked in all
areas of its operation.
The Marine Reserve Unit from
Abilene will lead the parade; the
