City’s Sales Tax Figures Up
Slightly Over Last Year
State Comptroller Bob Bullock
last week sent checks totaling |M.3
million in local sales tax to 1,083
cities that levy the one-percent city
tax. Bullock said 1906 payments to
date were down almost two percent
as compared to the payments to date
in December of last year.
December checks represent taxes
collected on sales made in October
and reported to the Comptroller by
Nov. 20.
The City of De Leon received
84.0U.04 for this payment period,
compared to 83,381-91 for the
comparable period last year. The
1988 payments to date total
$70,398.99, up .19 percent over 1906’s
figure of $70,382.83.
The City of Comanche’s figure for
this payment period is $11,984.83. In
1980 it was $11,906.64. Their 1908
payments to date come to
$192,800.08, down 6.41 percent from
1985’s amount of $206,060.70.
InGustine, $678.10 was paid and
is leas than $718.37 for the same
period last year. The 1986 payments
to date are $10,074.96, down 10.U
percent from last year’s $11,202.47.
A total of $18,366.38 was paid to the
City of Coleman, down from last
year’s $17,20.43. Theta* 1986
payments to date are $221,500.19,

TWO BUBAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
INVESTIGATED IN NOVEMBER
The Texas Highway Patrol
investigated two rural traffic
accidents in Comanche County
during November. These accidents
resulted in no deaths or no injuries.
The total rural traffic accidents
for Comanche County for this year is
101, which have resulted in three
deaths and 64 injuries.

Santa’s Helpers
Still Seeking
Denations
The Santa’s Helpers Workshop at
121 West Grand in Comanche is
bussing with activities from 10 a.m.
to 4 pm.
Santa’s volunteer elves have been
sorting the donated clothes, shoes,
toys, and food for the applicant

Deadline for application for
was Dec. 12. However,
Santa’s Helpers is still in need of
monetary contributions as well as
store-bought canned goods. Checks
payable to Santa’s Helpers may be
left at the store or mailed to Santa’s
Helpers, General Delivery,
Comanche, Texas 78442.
Donations since the beginning of
the campaign have totaled $1,700,
according to Kerry Dudley. Food
orders placed Monday totaled
nearly $1,400 which covers 90
families (30 more than last year).
Santa would like to buy new toys
and underwear for all the children,
but help is needed.

seedstock producer from DeLeon,
Texas, was elected president of the
Board of Directors of the United
Duroc Swine Registry at the
association’s annual meeting held
December 6,1906, in Peoria, Illinois.
School Board To Meet Friday la
Special Session
The De Leon ISD Board of
Education will meet in a special
meeting on Friday, Dec. 19, at the
school tax office at 12:00 noon.
The agenda for the meeting is as
follows: 1. Call to Order. 2.
Opening Prayer. 3. Approval of
minutes of Dec. 9. 4. Audience with
visitors. 5. Approval of tax rolls for
1987. 6. Adjourn.

BANDS TO PBESENT CHRISTMAS
CONCERT
The De Leon Bands, under the
direction of Don Halbrook, will
present their annual Christmas
Concert on Thursday night, Dec. 18,
at 7:30 p.m. in the High School
Auditorium.
Fifty members of the Sixth Grade
Beginner Band will be playing,
along with 72 members of the Junior
High Band and the Mighty Maroon
Band of 64 members.
First Baptist Church
To Present Cantata Sunday
The Adult Choir Ministry of the
First Baptist Church will present an
evening of Christmas worship and
praise with the Christmas cantata
“Down From His Glory”.
The special program will be
presented at 6 p.m. Sunday night.

Robert L. Mull was chosen for a
three-year term on the Comanche
County Agriculture Stabilization and
Conservation Service (ASCS)

In 220th Judicial District Court Spurger case of a charge of burglary

Monday, four Juries were selected
for two dvil cases and two criminal
cases, according to District Judge
James Morgan.
One of the civil cases was tried
Tuesday and the other will be
Friday.
The case against Phillip Prado,
charged with burglary of a building,
will be on Weckiesday, and the Tony
of a vehicle will be Thursday.
Prado is from Comanche and
Spurger from Dublin.
On Monday, four pleas of guilty
were entered:
Lesley Robinson, 28, Comanche,
charged with burglary of a building,
received seven years probation,
$2,000 fine;
James Weldon White, 63, Fort
Worth, charged with attempted
murder, received five years
probated sentence and $3,900 fine;
Jerry Wayne Clift, 26, Comanche,
charged with sexual assault, five
years probated sentence, $2,900 fine:
and James Roberson, 41,
Comanche, charged with sexual
assault, received 10 years probation
and fined $5,000.
All were ordered to pay probation
fees, court costs, and submit to
urinalysis.
