Yuletide Party
Cast Of Legion Play Enter
tained In Shiner
to School.
Mrs. E. L. Merrem and Miss
Mabel Merrem were joint
hostesses at a delightful Mah
Jongg party on last Friday even-
ing in the home of their parents
on Avenue C. Unique in its
every appointment was this
occasion.
The living room and library
had been thrown en suite and
decked in the gay holiday hues.
Every where hovered sug-
gestions of the season. The four
tables were clad in artistically
frilled runners of festive red and
green and designated by artful
numbers. Surmounting all, how-
ever, was the glistening Yule
tree perched on its mound of
decorative moss and sending
forth its ray of Christmas joys.
Little Miss La Dell Merrem
passed colorful tallies to the
players. After a great many
games of intense interest the
first prize, a lovely tapestry table
runner, fell to Mrs. Alf.
Schramm, while Mrs. O. A.
Dreyer was consoled with a
huge walnut.
The lunch was not only de-
lightfully pleasing to the palate,
but interesting in its idea, aye,
ihe crown of this evening’s oc-
casion as it carried one away
from the native state to another
country and twas that of old
romantic Mexico.
The tamales, the salad, the
good pecan candy and all was
characteristic of this land. The
charming tiny Senoritas i n
Christmas garb gracefully play-
ed their roles of favors and
further reflected the country’s
motif. Besides the afore men-
tioned the following were pre-
sent: M esd ames William WeYa t-
land Jr , S. A. Thulemeyer, B

THE NEW YEAR
AUSTIN
Shiner’s Christmas hospitality
extended even over into Yoakum
when the delightful home of Mr.
and Mrs. E. J. Merrem was
opened Friday evening D^cem
ber 26th to Yoakumites who
were in the cast of “When A Fel-
ler Needs A Friend.” It will be
remembered that this play was
stayed here early in the month
by Shelton Moore Legion Post.
Fourteen guests from this city
found the Merrem home deco-
rated in Yuletide splendor and
filled with Christmas spirit. The
revellers were suoplied with
crepe paper and required to
make party caps for themselves.
The handiwork of the girls turn-
ed out some striking bonnet
effects, while the efforts of the
boys resulted in amusing non-
de-scripts.
Bridge, mah jongg and other
games followed. Refreshments1
consisted of sandwiches, olives,
fruit cake and chocolate. The
*
girls received miniature har-
monicas as favors and the boys
were given diminutive cap pis-
tols. It is reported that there
were no causalties in the gun-
play that followed. The affair
was wholly original and lively.
