TO SAVE METAL
FOR UNCLE SAM
We’re ready with a wartime telephone in which
plastic and steel replace the more vital defense
metals—-zinc, aluminum, magnesium. It’s not a
makeshift telephone—it’s a good telephone.
In the months ahead, however, you may find it
hard to get one. Where all lines in our cables arc
taken up we can’t add new customers quickly,
because nearly all the additional cable we can get
is required for vital defense construction.
We’re making every substitution, salvaging every
bit of usable equipment to keep up with orders as
well as we can.
We hope that our record over more than 60 years
is evidence that we will always be doing our best
to keep your service as good as condition# permit.

The RAMBLER
Oh—My Head! Has anybody
an extra barrel? I need one af-
ter last week.—Old Texas U.
went down to T. C. U. who had
been pointing to that game all
season.
Any more room on that A.
and M. Band Wagon? Well,
move over—Now, I can hear
several voices proclaiming “I
told you so.”
Of course, being a staunch
supporter of anything that is
in Texas, and realizing that A.
and M. has the best chance to
participate in a Rose Bowl
game, I am boosting them —
even if I think that Texas U.
DID HAVE a great ball club.
My predictions fell flat last
week. If Flatbush Seminary for
Neglected Adolescents decided
to play Notre Dame—I would
be undecided about the out-
come. How I can pick the win-
ners—if these teams don’t co-
operate?

It was a long walk home
last Saturday from Austin—not
even bus fare left—those long
handled ones were put on
about a month early-they were
too hot that afternoon.
MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER
On Saturday, November 15, a
miscellaneous shower was given
at the home of Mrs. Gus Pfeil
honoring Miss Gladys Huber,
bride-elect of Edgar Pfeil.
When the bride-elect arrived
she was met at the car by Ruby
Huber and Ivan Pfeil, who led
her to her chair.
Mrs. Richard Schuetze and
Mrs. W. E. Goetz sang “I Love
You Truly” as the bride-elect
entered the house. LaNell Som-
merlatte then gave a reading,
“A tip to the Bride.’ Eunice
Sommerlatte and Calvin Pfeil
played a musical number, “Let
Me Call You Sweetheart.” “Mis-
souri Waltz” was played on the
accordion by Miss Caroline Va-
lenta. A reading “How To Pre-
serve a Husband” was given by
Miss Ivie Lee Sommerlatte. A
violin solo by Miss Ethel Baros
completed the program.
A delicious lunch was served
consisting of chicken and cheese
sandwiches, cakes, and coffee.
The pink and white color
scheme was carried out through
the house. Pink and white
chrysanthemums adorned the
rooms.
The bride’s book was presid-
ed over by Miss Ivie Lee Som-
merlatte, in which 130 guests
registered.
Upon the arrival of the guests
Miss Georgie Mae Fiedler pin-
ned pink and white hearts on
each. The hearts having “Ed-
gar-Gladys, November 23, 1941’
on them.
The bride-elect received many
beautiful and useful gifts.

The only reason I can dope
out why the Great Longhorn
Team lost last Saturday is ■
T. C. U. made 14 points while
Texas did not make over 7.
That is enough to lose any bal]
game. So the main reason is—
Texas did not make enough
points!

Dear Rambler:
’Tis indeed a shame that one
of your evident and ostensible
intellectual abilities should
have fallen victim to propagan-
da (such as the enclosed news-
paper clipping represents) re-
garding the excellence of the
Texas football team!
You have my profound sym-
pathies and request that here-
after you wear a black tie un-
til New Year’s Day. Vae victis!
In closing I should like to
call ,your attention to certain
words of wisdom:
The moving finger writes,
and, having writ, moves on:
nor all your piety not wit
shall lure it hack to cancel
half a line, nor all your tears
wash out a word of it.
“May you be rendered sager /
for having (in effect) backed
your opinion with a wager.’
Qui ’excuse s’accuse,
Omar Khayyam.
. The enclosed clipping reads
as follows:
Every new student and every
old grad will join the campus
in the football sentiment now
abroad: Texas will defeat A.
and M., on Kyle Field, win the
Southwest conference cham-
pionship, and get the Rose Bowl
bid. Dana X. Bible’s Plan is due
to reach its fruition this fall,
and no Texas fan thinks either
S. M. U. or the draft can stop
it.

me of getting monthly income
for life.
Nothing in this world can
compensate the loss of my dear
husband and father of two
children, seven and three years
old, but this financial help I
will receive from your com-
pany, will secure for me the
means of giving my children the
proper education and training.
I sincerely recommend your
