Basketball coaches
usually annoyed when
foul Is called against one of
their players, but In a re-
cent game Coach Bob
LeGrand of Texas-
Arlington was doubly
disturbed.
It was over an infraction
called against his top
scorer, Melvin Polk. It
seems that Polk lost a cou-
ple of teeth after running in-
. to another player's elbow.
Coach LeGrand's protest
brought on this reply from
the refereee who made the
foul call: “Polk’s teeth
didn’t have any business
making contact with the
other man’s elbow.’’

CROSBY (Sp) — Crosby
School District has an-
nounced plans for summer
school.
Summer school, which
will be held af Drew Junior
High In Barrett Station, will
begin June 2 and last
through July 11, with two
holidays - June 19 and July
Students must furnish
their own work books,
notebooks, paper, pens and
pencils.
A student who misses
more than three classes
Parents are responsible
for furnishing transporta-
tion to all students. Since
the summer school will be
operated on a “closed cam-
pus basis,” students will be
required to remain on cam-
pus until dismissed for the
day, officials said,
The officials pointed out
this includes students who
drive to and from school.
"Discipline will be ad-
ministered as prescribed in
the student handbook used
during the regular school
year,” said Crosby Schools
Supt. Tom Miksch.
The dress code will also
be in effect, Miksch said.
“Violations of any stated
rules may result in the stu-
dent being expelled from
summer school with no re-
fund of tuition or credit for
work completed,” Miksch
said.
According to the
district’s summer school
policy, all students are
eligible to attend.
Attendance is mandatory
for those students who have
failed their grade level, if
they are to be considered
for promotion to the next
grade level.
Students who have failed
one of the subjects offered
are encouraged to attend to
improve their grades,
Miksch said.
In addition, students may
elect to attend summer
school in lieu of taking the
course during the regular
school term.
Robert N. Johnson, assis-
tant principal at Drew
Junior High, $ill serve as
principal for summer
school.

On a trip to Arizona once, I
purchased a large Jamez wed-
ding jug from an Indian wom-
an and her daughter who had
shaped it. baked it and painted
it into a thing of beauty.
It now occupies a promi-
nent place in our home, and
often draws comments and
questions from guests who
especially want to know why
it has two parallel spouts
which flange outward from
the neck of the vessel. I repeat
the story that was told me by
its creators.
After a wedding ceremony,
members of the bride’s and
the groom’s family form two
lines and the double-spouted
vessel filled with water is
passed back and forth
between them.
Each takes a drink of
water, which is viewed as a
precious and holy gift from
God. The ritual is a symbolic
gesture of the new unity that
exists between the couple and
their two supporting families.
Marriage is sharing the
same water jug - and every-
thing else as well. People who
are unable or unwilling to
share themselves and all they
possess are not mature
enough for this monumental
