Way back in World War II, the Women’s Army --------
Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) took over as clerks and
typists and drivers so the servicemen they reliev- ——
ed could serve combat duty.
Then in August 1943, it was decided to form the
WAC and drop the WAAC. The WAC - Women’s
Army Corps - was part of the Army. And its
members were entitled to the same benefits
granted servicemen.,
But some 16,000 women chose not to make the
switch to the WAC and, therefore, received none
of the veterans’ benefits, such as home loans,
hospitalization and pensions.
Now the Pentagon has decided former WAAC /
members should be considered" full-fledged l?
military veterans, H

military aircraft during World War II and women j
who were telephone operators in France in World I
