Our republican friend, W. B.
Newton, of the Index, cannot
keep.his hatred for the demo-
cratic party concealed, but lets it
crop out every 'once in a While.
The following shows his con-
tempt f-or a democrat and the
democratic party :
Some fellow o^er in Dallas
wants to know “wh^t is a demo-
crat?” That is a funny question
to ask an intelligent public. But
for his benefit will say a demo-
crat is a fellow who votes the-
other ticket—will vote it no mat-
ter who may be the no.minee, bo
he a man or a yellow dog.
Yet democrats will furnish suc-
qor to an institution' that takes
the greatest pleasure in pound-
ing them "over the head with-
out any provocation whatever.
Wore the democrat^ to withdraw
thieir support from the Index,
there would not be' patronage
enough left to. buy salt for its
editor’s bread. , •> ■ V

A Pretty Wedding.
One of the most beautiful and im-
posing weddings was solemnized at
the Baptist church Wednesday even?
ing, June 26, that has OftQured in Palo
Pinto in many a dny.y -ffitf'was the oc-
casion of the mam'age of George Met
calf and Miss Mase Harris, both of
this place. The churoh was beauti-
fully decorated and brilliantly illumi-
nated, and presented a sheno seldom
seen in a rural town like Palo Pinto.
Mrs. Wm. Reagan played the wed-
ding march, and as the procession
moved up the aisle on either side,
which wsre arched, and a beautiful
orange flower, bell shaped, banging
beneath, presented an imposing“and
brilliant scene. On reaching the altar
the happy pair was made man and
wifo by a few solemn and impressive
words by Rev. A. 3. Bunting; the pas-
tor. After the ceremony, three little
girls dressed in white, scattered flow-
ers in front of the wedding party as
they marched back down the aisle to
strains of the wedding march. The
bride was beautifully dressed in cream
silk and veil, While the groom was
dressed in the conventional black.
Mr. Metcalf is a young man of ster-
ling worth, having been born and
reared practically in Palo PJnto. He
has served two terms as surveyor, two
terms as district clerk, and is now
serving his' second term as county
clerk, while his charming bride is also
a native of our town and county, thw
daughter of Mr. aud Mrs. D. C. Haf-
ris, one of the most staunch farmers
and cattle raisers of our county.
A reception was held at the resi -
dunce of the bride’s- parents to the
immediate relatives and friends, at
which delicious refreshments were
served. The contracting parties were
the recipients of many valuable pres-
ents, a list of which we failed to get.
The newly wedded couple quietly
stepped off about 11 o’clock an*left
for Gordon, where-they took the train
it Is said, for Jamestown, V*., where
they will spend their honeymoon.
'Miss Mase will be sediy missed from
the social circle of our town, where
