jackets nip Lovelady; end play Tuesday
THURSDAY, FfcBKUAKV 5, 1987—THF. AL'Kj HfcRALO OF ALTO, TEXAS- PAGE IHKH
By COACH KEITH II ARK NESS
Alto Yellowjackets still remain at
third place in District 23AA.
The Jackets nipped Lovelady in
overtime last Tuesday night 52-46.
Willie Skinner paced the Jackets
with 15 points. Michael Richardson
added 13, six of which came in over-
time, and Paul Holland chipped in
12 points. Dale McCant was seven of
eight from the charity stripe to help
preserve the victory.
The victory moved tne Jackets to
12-9, 4-2 in District, Marsalles An-
derson and Tyrone Martin provided
strength on the boards and played
great defense. We played a pretty
decent ball game, but Lovelady
played above their head.
The Jackets trekked to New
Waverly Friday night trying to
avenge an earlier defeat by the
Bulldogs. New Waverly opened the
first quarter with 24-10 lead. The
Jackets then outscored the ‘Dogs in
every quarter but still fell 74-68. We
played a whale of a ballgamc. It
would have been a big victory and
big upset had we won. New Waverly
leads the district with an un-
blemished 7-0 record.
Willie Skinner again led the
Jackets with 20 points. Mike
Richardson, Kendrick Morrison,
Marsalles Anderson, and Dale Mc-
Cant each scored 8 points. Paul
Holland and Tyrone Martin scored
seven apiece.
The Jackets met Grapeland
Tuesday night. This game deter-
mined the second place team. The
Jackets need their three remaining
games to capture a playoff berth.
We have already beaten Elkhart
and Groveton, and should beat
Grapeland. The Jackets end the
season at home against Groveton
