We live in the Mount Zion com-
munity on • block top rood which la
a beautiful idyllic rural setting.
However, Monday, June 30th on my
return from a doctor’* * appoin-
tment, I was appalled to find gar-
bage and broken glass all on the
road, not on the sides, but in the
road!
Across from our home is a deep
ravine that is used for garbage
dumping. These people who used
the road instead of the ravine
showed their total lack of respect
and sense of responsibility. I won-
der how well it would set with them
for someone to use their road for a
dumping ground. Perhaps their
road is already full and they need to
spread the garbage around.
To say the least; we in the Mount
Zion Community are not impressed.
Except, with the dumpers’ sheer
stupidity.
Thank you,
Brenda Todd

To the Editor:
TO THE DUMPERS. Did you
know that it is against the Texas
state law to dump out unwanted
cats and dogs? If you do know it,
you don’t seem to care either for the
law or the poor animal.
Everyone thinks that kittens and
puppies are adorable, however, you
must realize that they grow up to be
cats and dogs. They don’t stay
small and adorable forever.
These trusting souls depend on
you, a human for food and shelter.

due to the human trait, if you don’t
want it, throw it away.
Highway 21 East in the Alto city
limits seems to be a favorite dum-
ping ground for these unwanted
animals. There are places that will
take them if the owner will simply
take the time to take them there,
(dog pounds, Humane Society, etc.)
Dr. Kessell, our vet, does all that
be can do in taking these animals in
and trying to find a decent home for
them. I, personally have no use for
the dumpers. Please think before
you dump.

Dear Editor,
I can’t help but wonder why some
people find it so painful to say
“Thank You” when it’s due.
Jack Mertz worked harder and
did more for Alto than any mayor
before him and, from what I’ve
seen so far, any after him! Jack had
no ulterior motive for his dedication
to the people of Alto. His only con-
cern was for the well-being of his
fellow Altonians.
Why was he left out when it came
time to give credit for the recent
government grant and people who
had very little, if anything, to do
with it, included!
I know, like myself, Jack wasn’t a
"native son” or a “good old boy” or
a “5th generation Texan” but he
was a friend and a neighbor to all of
us!
I’m not trying to discredit anyone
for their efforts in finishing what
Jack Mertz started but, at least,
they could have given him the
thanks he was due for his, very
major, part in getting this much
needed grant.
I, for one, say, “Well done,” to a
good and faithful servant!
Sincerely,
John J. Nickle
