The members of the girls' volley ball team are as follows: front row: Mary
Sue Rodgers, Laura Gibson, Cherry Brush, Beverly Meyer, and Frankie

Joan Pennybacker.
Fifteen-Man Squad
In Possum Kingdom
Relays At Graham
Weatherford High School took a
15-man track squad to Graham Fri-
day, March 31st. As a whole the
track team is forming out pretty
well. These boys entered in each
event:
O. T. Cox, James Appleton and
Sam Moughon entered the 100 yd.
dash and 0. T. Cox got 4th in the
finals.
0. T. Cox, James Appleton and
Sam Moughon entered the 220 yd.
dash, with O. T. Cox getting 2nd
in the finals, and three points.
Weatherford’s foursome in the
440 yd. relay composed of Appleton
Moughon, McDaniel and Cox, won
their heat in the good time of 46.3
seconds and placed fifth in the
finals.
Jack Bedford, Pete Wilbanks,
and Henry Gremminger entered the
“man falling race” 440 yd. dash.
Bedford broke the record with a
fine time of 54.1 seconds, but that
was later broken. He got 3 points
for Weatherfoi’d.
Dudley Caraway ran the half-
mile and got fifth out of about 32
boys running. Ernie Tullis ran the
mile and got sixth out of 48 boys
running. Weatherford’s mile relay’
team got fifth in the finals, with
Wilbanks, Puryear, Gremminger
and Bedford. •
Mike McDaniel and Tommy Hud-
speth entered the low hurdles and
both did well for the first time to
ever enter.
In the field events Sam Moughon
and O. T. Cox entered the broad
jump, with Moughon just lacking
IV2 inches to qualify.
Cox and Hughes entered the dis-
cus throw, with Cox getting anoth-
er point for 4th place.
Moughon and Hughes entered the
shot put, both were eliminated in
the preliminaries.
McDaniel, Puryear and Hudspeth
entered the high jump, they lasted
up to five feet, two inches.
Senior High Beats Junior
High In Volley Ball
The Senior High girls volley ball
team won by 31 to 18 over the Jun-
ior High girls in the high school
game at homeroom period Monday
april 3. Some of the outstanding
players on the Senior High team
were Joan Pennybacker, Betty Tho-
mas and Mary Sue, Rodgers. Out-
standing on the Junior High team
were Sammie Listenbee and Ola
Faye Stroud.
Cox and Bedford Receive
Awards For Football
Achievements
O. T. Cox and Jack Bedford re-
ceived citations for outstanding
football achievements from the
Dallas Morning News recently.
The awards stated that Jack and
O. T. were on the Dallas Morning
News and All-State AA roll. This
makes the third honor of this sort
that Jack and O. T. have received
this year.

Baseball Season
Officially Open
The baseball season is open and
Coach Louise Taylor has already
planned her baseball team. The
Senior High girls started ’ practice
April 3, and the Junior High girls
on April 4. They will practice every
afternoon after school.
The Junior High girls have sign-
ed up as: Catchers, Pat Neal, Bar-
bara Hill, Mayland Kelly, and
Doris Hal!; Pitchers, Martha Fulks,
La Fray Paul, Barbara Dalton, and
Laquita Harris; First Base: Mary
Hall, Ola Faye Stroud, Jayne
Thompson, Alma King and Glenda
Reynolds; Second Base: Frances
Strain, Shirley Bradley, Winnie
Kuykendall, Beverly Rankin; Third
Base: Yvonne Lewis, Lamona Val-
teria, Barbara Bradford, Coleta
King, Lois Darden, and Joan Byers;
Short Stop: Barbara Hagar, Eva-
earl Kelly, Elizabeth Gunning,
Beverly Aslinger, and Barbara Gar-
land; Right Field: Nina Plummer,
Zona Berdine, Gay Wattmer, and
Dawn McDavid; Center Field:
Wanda Wright, Ruby Tomlinson,
Jennye Henderson, and Rexie
Worden; Left Field: Violet Ann
Johnson, Sammie Listenbee, Car-
mitta Hoover, Peggie Waldrip and
Angela Boone; Extras: Lois Sear-
foss, Delena Dane, Joy White,
Mary Gail Worden, La Verne Haw-
kins, and Dorothy Werner.
There are forty-eight Junior
High girls and twenty-seven Senior
High girls going out for baseball.

TIPS
The Weatherford High School
golf team was defeated, by six holes
by Mineral Wells High School at
the Mineral Wells course Saturday,
April 1st.
Low men for Mineral Wells were
the Wright brothers, who have been
playing golf for five or six years.
They shot a 79 and an 85, while
their opponents, Ernest Williams
and Mac Hartness were mounting
up a score of 102 each. Low men
from Weatherford were Tommy
Hudspeth with a 98, and Jack Hob-
son with a 99. Outstanding players
from Weatherford were Wayland
Paul, Bob White and Bob Bradford.
The Mineral Wells golfers will
play a return match in Weather-
ford soon.
