Our Deadly Enemy:
Narcotics
Most of our preceding editorials have dealt with situa-
tions that we are faced with now and improvements that
could be made.
But we shouldn’t limit ourselves to only the problems
present in our school.
There are potential problems that could become existing
menaces in our school and community.
Narcotics is the evil to which I’m referring. Some thought
should be devoted to this threat because, as preposterous as it
may sound, it could strike in our community,
People who make themselves aware of these possible sit-
uations can prepare themselves and be able to combat them
when they arise.
It’s something to think about and something to be ready
to prevent at all times,
WHS Thanks P.T.A.
'•v
For All They've Done
We W.H.S’ers owe a big “thanks” to the P.-T.A, for the
fine work it has done.
The P.-T.A. has sponsored different projects to raise funds
for equipment which we have already been enjoying.
The members of the P.-T.A, really work hard. It isn’t
right, though, for all the work and responsibility to be placed
on a few people,
If we really appriceiate their fine work, we should urge
our parents to attend meetings, In order for the P.-T.A. to
keep functioning it needs more workers. The same ones can’t
do everything all the time.
The next time there is a P.-T.A. meeting, ask your par-
ents to attend it.
Attention WHS'erst
Who'll Be Western King
Whose candidate will be elected as King of the Cowboys?
Each class has selected a well-qualified candidate, The com-
petition will be strong,
This will really be a test of each class’s initiative. The
winning candidaate will be more than King of the Cowboys,
he will also represent that classe’s supremacy and willing-
ness to work, "v.
This is your opportunity really to prove that your class
is outstanding. Get behind your man—try to make him the
King of the Cowboys,
This is the third major election of candidates selected by
the classes. Student Body election and Melonvine Queen
are the other two. So it’s another chance for your class to
prove its ability.
- Now is the time for you to prepare for the election, Start
saving your pennies cause each one is one more vote for your
candidate and one step closer to making him the winner,
Not only will you be supporting your representative but
you will also be supporting the purpose of this contest, that
of helping to pay for the publication of “The Grass Burr.”

Locks at Last
“Who is the new girl?” was the
comment made by many W.H.S.
students last Monday morning as
Winnie Wallace came to school
with her hair cut for the first time
in seventeen years, (She is seven-
teen years old.) Expressions varied
but they were, mainly that of
shock.
Many of the students have never
seen Winnie without her hair
braided. on top of her head and
others have just seen it down once
when she was the Sophomore
candidate for the Melon Vine
Queen, People looked at Winnie
all day and didn’t realize it was
really she. Good girl, Winnie,
we’re glad you finally “let your
hair down”,

When we were jerks in Junior
High,
Afraid of girls—bashful and shy,
Pretty things came flitting by
And we just looked—didn’t say
“HI”!
★
They’re growing up, big girls now.
If we were wolves we’d say, “Bow
_wow”!
‘Cause they’re really a-well-uh-
yes,
They’re one of those things we
guess.
★
They’ve sorta got just what it
takes.
That’s for sure, but goodness sakes,
Their brains are loose, and little
too,
But if they’re cute that can be
true,
' ★
Time did fly and things did
change,
And, of course, that isn’t strange
For whoopee-gosh.we lucky guys,
Now date beneath the starry skies.
WHS Builds
New Cabinets
Say- Have you noticed the hang-
of hammers, the clanging of wood
going down the halls, and the
sound of an electric saw sizzling
it’s way through a piece of wood?
Well, think nothing of it; it’s
only the carpenters building the
new cabinets that you see being
placed in some of the rooms.
These cabinets will be built for
a number of rooms in WHS. They
Will add very much to the appear-
ance and neatness of the rooms,
for the teachers will now have a
place to store their notebooks and
test papers.

An odor that resembled the
combination of a neglected piece
of limburger cheese and a glue
factory was smelled by Brown-
wood students. The biology stud-
ents claimed it was formaldehyde
that they were, using before they
disjointed the poor defenseless
frogs. It was quoted in the
“ROAR” that the teacher said,
“Maybe next year we’ll be able to
use a better smelling substance
like Chanel No, 5.”
