“GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST, AND ON EARTH
‘ PEACE, GOOD WILL TOWARD MEN.”
These words, familiar to everyone come from the second
chapter of Luke, and in them is found the central thought
of the Christmas season
“Glory to God in the highest ...” What better way is
there to celebrate the Christmas season than by glorifying
God by remembering that He sent His only son to live on
the earth?
“And on earth, peace ...” Nothing can make men hap-
pier than peace .... the peace of one’s own mind or peace
among neighbors or nations.
“Good will toward men.” When people feel good will to-
ward one another every single person involved received untold
benefit. Good will toward men is demonstrated today when
we give gifts to our family or friends. Good will toward men
is shown every time any person does an act of kindness.
Every person will find the Christmas season more enjoyable
* and rewarding if he will use as his them, “Glory to God in the
highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
W.H.S. Halls Don Festive
Attire As Geometry Class
Work on Annual Projects
'“It is more fun to make your
own Christmas decorations than
it is to buy them.”
The fifth period solid geometry
class and the sixth period plane
geometry class under the direc
tion of Miss Frances Smith set out
to prove this theory last week as
they worked on class projects. The
purpose of their projects was to
make attractive Christmas decora-
tions by using geometry.
The Student Council Christmas
tree in the hall was decorated with
figures made by the geometry
classes. Mobiles were made and
suspended from the light fixtures.
The Grass Burr and Melon Vine
are very proud of the All-Texas
rating award received December
8 at the State Press Convention in
Denton. Many helpful suggestions
and hints were brought home by
the delegates to help make the
W. H. S. publications better than
ever,
★
The plane and solid geometry
classes are doing a wonderful job
in decorating the school for the
Christmas season. Small decora-
tions have been made for the tree
in the hall, while larger figures
are being hung from the hall ceil-
ing.
★
The winners of the Student
Council Christmas Card Contest
will be announced today during
the Christmas assembly. Many are
the products of long hours of work
and thought. I think each club
submitted a very good poster.

The Grass Burr Staff would like
to wish you all, a very, Merry
Christmas, ( j.
Other decorations.were made and
displayed throughout the school.
In commenting on the projects,
Miss Smith stated that her classes
always seem to enjoy this work
thoroughly and that people visit-
ing the school are very complimen-
tary of the decorations.
Principal Curtis
Stresses Need for
Good Attendance
“Students who are absent a lot
from school have a habit that
needs to be changed.” These were
the words of Principal Raymond
Curtis as he addressed the Wea-
therford High student body dur-
ing assembly on Friday, Decem-
ber 7. Mr. Curtis stated that reg-
ular attendance is important to
the individual student and that it
is important to the school.
During the first six weeks of
this year an average of 97.62% of
the students attended school each
day but during the second six
weeks this average fell to 95.82%.
Mrs. Shorten’s home room was on
top during the first six weeks with
an average of 99.19% while Mrs.
Allen’s home room had the best
attendance during the second six
weeks with an average of 95.82%.
Mr. Curtis also challenged Wea-
therford High School students to
take proper care of the new high
school building as he said, “You
sthdents will have the privilege of
being the first students to attend
classes in the new high school
building, but you will also have
the responsibility of being the
first to take care of the building
and fixtures.” He presented the
question, “What would Weather-
ford’s tax payers think of high
school students if they didn’t take
care of this new building?” Mr.
Curtis suggested that if each stu-
dent will make it a habit to be
careful about the new building it
will become an act that is done
without thinking,
