4:42.5 mile run to set a new re-

Principal Will
Resume Job
‘U’m anxious to get back!”
replied Principal J. W. Simp-
son, as he commented about his
long absence from school.
Mr. Simpson, who has been
out of school due to an illness,
stated that because of a back
brace he wears, he is only able
to be up for a short while at
a time.
In an interview, Mr. Simpson
expressed his thanks to the stu-
dents and teachers for their
thoughtfulness to him and his
family during his illness. He
stated, “I have had reports and
I appreciate the cooperation of
the teachers and students during
my absence. I should be back
part time some next week.”
Mr. Simpson plans to be back

WHS Golfers
Cop Second
The WHS golf team placed sec-
ond in a tournament recently at
the Live Oak Country Club against
teams from Ranger, Stephenville,
Brewer, Breckenridge, and Min-
eral Wells. Mineral Wells, who
placed first, defeated our team
by only two points. The WHS
team has also participated in the
Southwest Recreational Meet held
at Z-Boaz Golf Course in Fort
Worth.
Gene Hooker, Jim Rankin, Ed-
ward Patterson, James Sisco,
and Russ White were selected to
represent WHS on the greens
this spring. These boys were
selected on a competitive basis
in a qualifying eighteen-hole
tournament. Gene Hooker, low
scorer, playing on the team for
his third year, stated, “the team
is working very hard and tries
to get in at least nine holes
every day after school and more
on weekends.”
Gene Hooker described one of
the most interesting experiences
the team has had this year as
Jim Rankin’s shooting an “eagle”
at Benbrook Golf Course on a
practice trip. Gene added, “This
is not the bird eagle but a golf
term used to describe a shot that
is two under par. It’s very rare
among amateur golfers.”
The WHS team was to have
traveled to Brownwood Friday,
April 10, to compete in a dis-
trict meet.
