A number of thefts,
the most unique of which
involved a man who
falsely represented him-
self as a salesman from a
business sign company,
were investigated this
week by the Levelland
Police Department.
Representatives of
Bearing Specialists, Inc.
at 1909 E. Highway 114
told police that on April
17 a man came into
their business and pre-
sented a sales pitch
about business signs,
saying he was with
Wayne Industries, Inc., a
sign company.
The owners decided
to buy and sign and gave

ey bag which contained
$10 in quarters and five
twenty dollar bills was
gone. The next day Tony’s
wife received a phone call
from a man who lived on
Avenue B, asking her to
come to his residence.
The man returned the
empty money bag to her
and told her he had found
it near the junior high.
Among the thefts wks
one at the S&H Green
Stamp store in the 800
block of Austin. Workers
at the store reported that
between 1 and 3 p.m.
Wednesday they were
very busy and that during
that time someone took
several items from the
store but, they had no
idea who the thief may
have been. Items taken
include a ladies quartz
watch worth $60, two
General Electric irons
and about $15 in currency.
A wallet which con-
tained $150 was taken
from the purse of Mary
Jackson, owner of
Mary’s Antiques around
2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Jackson told police that
two women came into her
store that day and pur-
chased an item which
they requested she gift
wrap. She had to go to
the back of the store in
order to wrap the pac-
kage. Later when she
was perparing'to go to
the bank, she noticed her
wallet was missing. She
said the two women were
the only people in the
store during the time
when her wallet could
have been taken.
The theft of a wallet
also occurred on Wed-
nesday at the Levelland
the man a $150 check for
a down payment and
signed a sales agreement
sign was installed.
When they had heard
nothing about their sign
a month later, they called
the sign company only to
find out that die man
they bought the sign from
never worked for the
company. Representa-
tives at the sign company
said that the man in
qustion, who has a Lub-
4bock address, called their
company and asked to be
sent some brochures —
apparently the ones he(
used in his sales pitch at
Bearing Specialists.
A burglary at Tom-
my’s Drive-In at 308
West Ave. was also in-
vestigated. The building
was apparently broken
into sometime after 9:45
p.m. Thursday and 7:37
a.m. Friday by complete-
ly removing the drive-in
window. The window was
apparently not broken
and was nowhere around
the business.
About $25 in various
coins were taken from
the cash drawer of the
building. The burglars,
however left behind the
pennies which were in
the drawer.
Keeth Tony reported
that his 1981 GMC pick-
up was burglarized with
$110 taken around 3:15
p.m. Tuesday. Tony said
he left his pickup unlock-
ed and entered a business
in the 700 block of Hous-
ton for a few minbtes.
When he returned a mon-

Development Center.
Lynn Perez told police
that around 11:50 a.m.
two twenty dollar bills
were taken from her
urse which was inside
er desk drawer but, two
hundred dollar bills in the
purse were left.
Two incidents of theft
of gasoline occurred at
McClain Oil, 1210 Ave. H
this week. Around 2:30
p.m. Wednesday two
men in a car drove up and
put $20 of unleaded gas
into their car before driv-
ing off without paying.
Around 2 p.m. Tuesday a
woman who paid for $5
worth of gas pumped $7
and then left without
paying the difference.
