Levelland Police Department reports outbreak of thefts
The Levelland Police
Department investigated
several thefts this week,
including the burglary of
the Red Devil Company
in the 200 block of First
Street Sept. 10.
Paul Nicklos reported
that when he arrived at
work on the morning of
Sept. 11, he noticed that
the screen on the east
side window had been
damaged and removed.
Inside he found a wooden
door valued at $85 and
two ceiling panels valued
at $20 had been
damaged and several
items had been stolen,
including 80 quarters in
U.S. currency, a Fuzz
Buster worth $100 and an
advance protection
motion detector worth
$100. Nicklos said two
employees who had not
been working very much
lately, and had complain-
ed about the lack of work
and not having enough
money may be possible
suspects.
Conrad Normand, an
investigator for Furr’s
Supermarkets Inc., re-
ported the theft of three
24-ounce containers of
cottage cheese and eight
12-ounce containers of
cottage cheese from the
Furr’s store in Gentry
Square. Normand said
the store manager con-
tacted him after a witness
saw the suspect, who
appeared to be changing
the inventory of Borden
dairy products. Hie sus-
pect reportedly took the
dated products from the
shelf and put them in a
box. He then left the
store without giving the
proper credit paperwork
to the store.
The theft of a round
barbeque grill valued at
$80 was reported by
Elenterio Suarez of 106
Alamo Rd. No. 39. Sua-
rez said the unpainted
grill had been taken from
his residence while he
was away. He told offi-
cers the grill was now at
the residence of a neigh-
bor but that it is now
painted black, however
he was unable to give
any identifying marks or
features to verify it.
A.R. Spears of 1812
Avenue I Place reported
the theft of a seven foot
silver colored A-frame
style windmill worth $100
from his yard. The wind-
mill was taken sometime
between Sept. 8 and
Sept. 10. Spears noticed
the windmill was missing
while he was working in
his yard. He said the
name “A.R. Spears” is
painted in gold letters on
the black tail.
Mike Garcia of 220
Maple reported that
sometime between 7
p.m. Sept. 8 and 4 p.m.
Sept. 9 someone stole
two bicycles from his
back yard. The two bicy-
cles, valued at $80 each,
were described as red
and black 20 inch Wes-
tern Auto Flyers, with
knobby tires and Mon-
roe shocks in the middle
sections.
Mrs. J.F. Bigham re-
ported the theft of a 1983
Buick La Sabre from the
parking lot on the east
side of the Furr’s Store in
Gentry Square between
6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Sept. 4. She said she had
placed the keys under
the floor mat on the
driver’s side, and that
she had not seen anyone
around when she left the
car.
She reported the in-
cident Sept. 11, and later
that evening an officer
noticed a car matching
the description of her car
on the 1200 block of 10th
Street. He flashed his
spotlight on the front
license plate to verify it,
and at that time the
driver of the stolen car
took off at a high rate of
speed. The officer pur-
sued and after about a
block, the suspects turn-
ed south on Avenue L
