She was able to name a suspect,
according to police records.

school student, reported the theft of
a power booster that had been bolted
to the floor of his Jeep. The booster

Deputy
surprises
pipe thief
A county deputy surprised a man
in the act of stealing pipe from the
L&J Hi-Point Gin at 1:45 a.m.
Thursday.
Deputy Gordon Bohannon
regularly patrols the gin area to keep
an eye on a large amount of pipe and
metal stored by the gin. Early
Thursday morning, he was in the area
when he saw the lights go out on a
vehicle which was stopped nearby. He
waited, with his lights off, and saw the
vehicle turn into the gin yard.
When Bohannon drove to the
vehicle and turned his lights on, he
saw that someone had parked a pickup
there and had loaded four pieces of
pipe into the bed of the pickup. The
driver was no longer at the scene.
Bohannon called a wrecker and
impounded the pickup. Inside the
pickup, he found a large Humber of
receipts which indicated scrap pipe
and metal had been sold by a
Brownfield man. Bohannon called the
Brownfield police and they verified
that the man who was named on the
receipts was known to drive the
pickup.
At 3:04 a.m., Bohannon met the
Brownfield man as he was walking on
Farm Road 300just west of Highway
385. Bohannon said the man appeared
to be tired and that he arrested him.
The man told Bohannon that he had
stepped out of the pickup the first lime
it stopped and that he did not know the
driver, according to Bohannon’s
report.
