Police made a couple of arrests and
investigated a theft Tuesday and
Thursday.
An officer stopped a driver who
had run a red blinking light at the
intersection of the Sundown Highway
and Avenue H at 11:54 p.m. Thursday
and discovered that the 1 i cense of the
diver, Patrick Leaks, 21, was
suspended. The officer arrested
Leaks,' and upon questioning a
passenger, Daniel Hernandez, 20,
arrested him for public intoxication.
Police received a complaint from
Arcie Palomin of 1011 Third St. on
Tuesday that a wedding ring set was
stolen from her bedroom April 7. She
told them her house was locked when
she returned from work that day and
they could find no signs of forced
entry, according to police reports. The
rings were valued at $950.

Stiewert, 58, of Lubbock were at 3
p.m. Thursday in the Frankl in-
Bartley Chapel with the Rev. John
Bryant, pastor of the Grace Assem-
bly of God Church, officiating.
Burial was in the City of Level-
land Cemetery with the Rev. Merle
Fulmer, pastor of the Fifth Street
Baptist Church, officiating.
She died Tuesday morning at
her home. Justice of the Peace L.J.
Blalack ruled the death due to
natural causes.
She was bom in Bellevue and
moved from Levelland to Lubbock
in 1978. Her first husband, Roy A
Hyatt, died in 1972. She married
Leroy Stiewert on April 11, 1985
in Plains. She was a member of
Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxilia-
ry, Sons of Hermann Lodge No. 16
and Levelland Second Baptist
Church.
Survivors include her husband;
two sons, Kenneth Balko of Taco-
ma, Wash, and He&th Hyatt of
Lubbock; two daughters, Janna
Burnett of Levelland and Patricia
Hyatt of Lubbock; two stepsons,
David Stiewert of Leudcrs and
Bobby Stiewert of Monahans; a
step-daughter, Lila Ann Stiewert of
Haskell; her mother, Essie Kitch-
ens of Woodvinc; a brother, Jim
North of Sandy Creek; three
sisters, Ruth Thompson of Level-
land, Dorothy Cloud of Eunice,
N.M. and Margaret Porter of
Gainesville; four step-sisters,
Doris Wynn, Brenda Kelso, both of
Las Vegas, Ncv., Linda Rawlins
and Dorothy Buzbce, both of
Levelland and six grandchildren.
