Every birth it required by law
to be reported to the local regis-
trar of the district in which it
occurs, by the attending physi-
cian or midwife, or if there was
neither, then by the father or
mother, within five days after
the birth. The law prohibits the
burial or removal of a dead body
before a death certificate pro-
perly and completely filled out
has been secured.
The immense; legal value of
these records makes it important
that the citizens of Texas be
given this protection by having a
complete, legal record properly
filed in accordance with the law.

The scores of friends of thia
estimable lady in Shiner were
very much grieved to learn of
her death in Chicago last Satur-
day night. The sad news reach-
ed our little city Sunday morn-
ing in a wire to Mrs. A. J. Ber-
ckenhoff. Later in the day, a
letter from Mrs. Martha Potts
to Mrs. Berckenhoff, was recei-
ved giving details of an accident
suffered by Mrs. Pfaender on
Thursday night July 5th, when
she fell from from her back porch
a distance of 5ft. to the ground.
The fall broke her back. She
was rushed to the hospital but
physicians said no chance of re-
covery. Paralysis developed from
the hips down and she wa3 re-
ported suffering intensely. Death
relieved her pain during Satur-
day night. She is survived by
her aged husband and life long
companion, who is blind in his
old age. One daughter, Mrs.
Martha Potts of 1004 So. Col-
lege Ave., Tulsa Okla. also sur-
vives On April 5th, Miss Ida
Pfaender, her other daughter
passed away in Chicago. Three
sons Adolf, Willie and Gus all of
Chicago are left to mourn the
loss of a devoted mother. The
funeral occured from the family
home 638 Dole St in Chicago.
Her passing will bring sorrow
to many hearts who knew and
loved her during her long resi-
dence in Shiner and tenderest
sympathy is extended to the be-
reaved who are saddened by her
death.
Just as soon as Alderman Joe
R. Mikesh started out the City
sprinkler, the heavens got busy
and tried to out do the local
sprinkler with a down pour. The
rain seemed to have been gene-
ral and was much needed, being
worth thousands of dollars to the
crops throughout this vicinity.
Master Julius, 6-year-old son
of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Remmers
of Garfield, was bitten on the leg
twice by a rattlesnake about sun-
down last Thursday. The bpy
was hurried to Yorktown and
given prompt treatment at Dr.
Eckhardt’s Hospital, and is now
about well again. Julius and an
older brother were attending to
the stock at Charlie Dowlearn’s
place when the trouble occurred.
