2.0 Public and Agency Involvement Program
General Public - The general public is a diverse and large target audience. The
Community Work Group functioned as a broad-based representation of the general
public and helped to disseminate information and bring to the process information
from their friends and neighbors. Citizens of the Northwest Corridor, however, had
several opportunities throughout the planning process to participate in the study.
Four rounds of public meetings meetings were held and numerous other outreach
methods were used as described in the following sections.
2.2 SUMMARY OF PUBLIC/ AGENCY INVOLVEMENT
The following sections summarize the level of public and agency involvement during the MIS
process. Appendix A contains a detailed listing of the meeting dates and locations for each of
the work groups as well as for other meetings and briefings. A list of Work Group participants
is also contained in Appendix A.
2.2.1 Work Group Meetings
A summary of meetings for each of the work groups is provided in Table 2.1. Community
Work Group meetings were organized to allow for constructive input during the project
definition phases, and to provide comprehensive briefings on study results at key milestones.
Several of the meetings included group exercises to identify potential alignments and routing
options, and to define and assess target station areas for rail alignments. Staff Work Group
meetings were generally technical discussions focused on ridership, costs, cost-effectiveness,
environmental considerations, and agency coordination. Executive Work Group meetings
highlighted study progress and provided a forum for the discussion of policy level issues such
as service outside the DART Service Area, air quality and Federal funding.
