3.0 Alternatives Considered
The results of the Conceptual Evaluation are described in detail in the Conceptual Definition of
Alternatives and Conceptual Evaluation Results Report (BRW, Inc.; March 1999). Based on the
evaluation criteria and discussions with the Northwest Corridor Work Groups, the following
recommendations were made by decision area.
LRT Alternatives
" A - North End/ Oak Lawn: Carry the TRE/Railtran base option, and refine a
"through" and "east" alignment during the detailed evaluation phase.
* B - Market Center to Northwest Highway: Carry the UP RR, and refine the Harry
Hines/UP RR combination alignment as the preferred base option. Drop Harry
Hines north of Mockingbird Lane in order to better access Love Field.
" C - Love Field Access: Carry the shuttle bus from UP/Mockingbird station forward
as the base option. Study the tunnel option further and drop the people mover spur
option.
" D - Northwest Highway to LBJ: Carry the UP RR forward; drop Harry Hines option.
* E - North Irving/ Las Colinas Connector: Carry Maiana Spur as the base option.
Drop Northwest Highway option, and continue to refine the Texas Stadium route.
* F - DFW Airport Access: Carry both options into detailed evaluation until more
detailed costs and ridership information is available.
Commuter Rail Alternatives
" C - Love Field Access: Carry the shuttle bus from UP/Mockingbird station forward
as the base option. Drop the tunnel and people mover spur options.
" E - North Irving/ Las Colinas Connector: Carry Mariana Spur as the base option;
continue to study the BN RR south option in the detailed evaluation as a possible
addition to a Commuter Rail or LRT Alternative.Northwest Corridor MIS 33
