4.0 Detailed Definition of Alternatives
" HOV Drop Ramps
- North Carrollton Transit Center (planned improvement)
- Proposed Valwood Parkway Park-and-Ride
The proposed park-and-ride HOV drop ramp is described in Section 4.3.3.
Two different scenarios were tested in the corridor to demonstrate affects on HOV demand
with or without HOV on Loop 12 Walton Walker south of the IH 35E junction:
* Alternative 4A-1: HOV on IH 35E with no HOV on Loop 12
* Alternative 4A-2: HOV on IH 35E with no HOV on Lower Stemmons (Loop 12 to SH
183) and with HOV on Loop 12
The Definition of Highway and HOV Improvements for the Northwest Corridor (BRW, Inc.;
July 2000) documents the development and refinement of Highway and HOV Alternatives,
including cross sections.
SH 114 HOV Alternative - Alternative 4B
Figure 4-4 illustrates the general improvements associated with Alternative 4B, the SH 114 HOV
Alternative. As with the HOV improvements in Alternative 4A, this alternative also focuses on
capacity improvements to accommodate multi-occupant vehicles in an effort to reduce SOV
travel. Key improvements are:
" International Parkway to SH 183
- Provide 2 reversible HOV lanes
* SH 183 Interchange
- Provide direct connection fly-over ramps to HOV lanes on SH 183 to the south
as described in TXDOT MIS (space will be needed for reversible gate
operation)
* HOV Drop Ramps
- Planned DFW/SH114 Park-and-Ride
- Proposed MacArthur Road Park-and-Ride
Typical cross sections of proposed improvements in the SH 114 corridor are contained in the
Definition of Highway and HOV Improvements for the Northwest Corridor (BRW, Inc.; July
2000).Northwest Corridor MIS 54
