Janet Van Vleet, Reporter-

We claim that Comanche is
the crossroads of Central
Texas, and I never really
realized how true it is.
Jim and I have been
assisting a bit down at
Brennan Vineyard’s tasting
room on Fridays, Saturdays,
and Sundays. And we have
met many people from many
different places around the
country from all walks of life
who stop by to check out the
new business.
And... not only has it been
interesting to meet the out-ot-
towners, but meeting the new
newspaper advertising and
other forms of advertising.
The logo must be reproduced
■ in the specified colors or black
and white. Graphic designer,
Stephen Ivy, sent two possible
designs. Carol Brown moved
to adopt the design that reads:
“COMANCHE - A Main
Street City.”
Sherry Perkins brought an
example of Frankoma pottery
that could be used as a
Comanche County
Sesquicentennial plate. Janice
Swearengin brought a Wilton
plftte with “The Fleming Oak”
on it as another example for a
type of plate. After discussion
<*f this project, several
problems arose. Comments
included: This is a Comanche
County sesquicentennial and
needs & separate chairman
Vith many civic groups from
around the county, including
the Comanche Main Street,
being represented. If no other
entity is interested, then Main
•Street might pursue the
sesquicentennial plate project.
No action was taken.
Nancy Wilkerson presented
a historical coloring book
published by Bright Sky Press,
depicting historic sites^ in
Albany. It would hedfesirable
to have a Comanche County
Historical Coloring Book to
sell in conjunction with other
sesquicentennial projects.
Again, due to no county-wide
structure for production and
sale of sesquicentennial items,
no action was taken.
There was discussion
expressing concern that before
pursuing any sesquicentennial
plans, the community and
county as a whole should
organize for it. It was stated
that possibly county and city
officials, as well as the
Comanche County Historical
Commission should be
contacted. They, in turn, could
appoint volunteers to gather
ideas from the surrounding

Chairman Wilkerson
brought up the topic of trash at
the entrance to the City of
Comanche and within the
City. A Comanche Trash-Off
was discussed and slated to be
held before the Pow Wow in
September.
The Comanche Depot

is still hope that the City will
