DIRECTV FOR FAMILY
ENTERTAINMB1T.
By Dorothy F. Robertson
I would like to share greet-
ings from J.B. (Jack) Carnes,
of Wichita Falls, regarding
the work and time that has
been spept on creating the
{Cgpp^y Museum. Along with
Jus words of appreciation, Be
states, “It will be something
all of the people of Ae area
can be proud of. It reflects the
t.im« and hardships our ances-
tors were forced to endure. The
Carnes family is grateful for
the work, thought, and dedica-
tion, and hope the good work
will continue at Ae museum.”
The Carnes family has
played a large part in the his-
tory of the County as is de-
picted in the museum, with
John Carnes as sheriff during
John Wesley Hardin days.
JJ3. can be remembered as a
young school boy driving Ae
delivery van for Bob Stanton
Dry Cleaners in the early
1930’s. He was always a go-
getter.
John Robertson recalls, in
1936, the first drivers license
were to be issued which was
to be handled through the
County Tkx Collector’s office.
When Ae books of licenses
were sent to Mr. Ruthven
Armstrong, Ae tax collector,
he remarked he would practice
on John, an employee in Ae
tax office, and issued him the
first license in the county,
which all were free at that
timft John kept the number
one driver’s license at his
fingertips for a long time,
however, since he didn’t need
it in India, he thinks it lain Ae
bottom of an old trunk now.
There have been lot of changes
in those sixty years.
It was Catherine Carnee,
now Mrs. Glen Frazier, who
Mr. Armstrong <

and other frontier bond tax.y
When this fellow gave .®e
his address, I perked up.
Mt. Calm! He asked why
and what about Mt. Calm.
He did not know of Ae
Hardin family having lived
there in 1872 before coming
to Comanche, then after the
John Wesley Hardin incident
they abruptly returned to Mt.
Calm in 1874. There is still
a puzzle regarding the tax
receipts, the Hardin family,
of Mt. Calm and Comanche
County land, which had been
listed as Frontier Bond land
and Convention Fur. land. It
is interesting that it is all
getting back together after all
of theee years.
