SUGGESTION
GOAL METOur overall ES/CIP program was successful in 1956. Installed
savings totaled $4,489,465. Our 1956 goal was $4,154,299--
so we went $335,16b over the top.Despite the good installed-savings record, our suggestion program fell short in
some other respects. We ended last year nearly 1,000 suggestions short of our goal
of 10,223. Fortunately, the dollar value of each accepted suggestion was higher
than expected. Only ten departments went over their ES/CIP quotas in 1956--
departments 4, 6, 17, 22, 27, 28, 29, 30, 42, and 44.
The 1957 Suggestion Program offers a challenge. Our proposed targets call for
13,096 suggestions and installed savings of $5,530,640.
Our goals are higher, but meeting these new goals should be easier. More employees
will participate in this year's program. The forecast calls for more business.
And finally, we face new problems born of new and challenging programs.
In 1956 we aimed for two CIP's from each salaried employee, and one ES for every
three hourly employees. We 're shooting for the same ratio in 1957. Submitting
suggestions is good business. Accepted suggestions save the company money and
make jobs easier. The employee profits. We want again to invite your attention to
revised DSP 2-1, issued last July, which provides for awards of:
* $10 for ES which saves over $50--but less than $100.
* 10 percent of the first year's savings on ES's that save over
$100. Maximum award is $10,000.
* $10 minimum for an accepted Safety suggestion, or for ES having
intangible benefits.
* If ES is adopted and used in other Divisions, the employee is
paid an additional 5 percent of savings made in each of the
other Divisions, subject to maximum award.
Point out to your people the advantages of taking part in the Suggestion Program.
Every effort will again be made to expedite the processing of suggestions.
With a real effort I believe we can go over the top on all 1957 targets.B-58 TO FLY
