ISSUED WEEKLY TO ALL SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL
30 January 1952
The Cost Reduction Section of the Industrial Engineering Department recently issued the
1952 departmental quotas to all departments. I believe each department can meet or beat
its quota under our Cost Improvement Plan if we all become more cost conscious and take an
even greater interest in both our Cost Improvement Plan and our Employee Suggestion Plan,
Results obtained under the CIP and ESP programs in 1951 as compared to 1950 are very
gratifying. Here are some of the figures:
CI? ESP
1250_ 15? 15.0_1951
Number ideas submitted 706 1689 2587 3350
Number approved 78 362 140 425
Per Cent Approved 11,04 21,45 5-4 12068
Savings $1,044,653 $2,0671415 $75x162 $2169746
I am sure that the CIP savings would have been much higher if some of you had turned in
your good ideas as CIPs instead of just going ahead on your own and activating them as
part of your job. Certainly, it is part of your job to think of better ways of doing
things , But unless you submit your ideas as CIPs, we have no way of telling how much
you saved the company with your ideas.
As you know, those of you who turn in CIPs that are approved, receive a letter of commen-
dation from the Cost Reduction Supervisor9 a copy of which goes to your department head.
Also, a record of the approved CIP and the savings derived from it is placed in your
personnel records, Such records have a bearing on merit increases and promotions. A list
of those persons having CIPs approved is sent to the Division Manager each month
In addition to gaining individual recognition, those who submit worthwhile CIPs gain
recognition for their department Charts maintained in our Operating Control Room show
the performance of each department against the established quotas. If you don't know
what your department quota is, ask your department head., Our slogan for this year is:
A RECORD SAVING FROM YOU --- - - - - -IN '52
Kermit Day has been selected for the new position of Modernization Manager and Roy Davis
has been promoted to Kermit s former position as Superintendent cf Final Assembly, Both
of these promotions are well deserved- These men have repeatedly proven their supe-visory
ability Both have a tough job ahead of them and will appreciate your assistance
The Modernization Program in particular is going to be a tough one because it is something
new for us: It is going to require quick and accurate action on the part of all those
concerned, And it will be a big program too, requiring possibly several thousand employees
at its peak-
Don1t forget9 today and tomorrow are the last two days you can pay your poll tax,
