SUPERVISORY
ISSUED WEEKLY TO ALL SUPERVISORY PERSONNELI
22 August 1956
We have an extensive pre-B-58 Flight Test Program in operation. The purpose
of the program is to test B-58 equipment prior to installation. Also, evaluation
tests are carried on to establish the basis for systems development.
Some of the aircraft used in this flight test program are an RB-36, an F-89D,
B-47, YF-102, C-131B, and KC-97B.
The Flight Department is also carrying on flight training in preparation for
B-58 Flight Test Program. B. A. Erickson, Manager of Flight, is presently flying
the production F-102 at Palmdale.
On August 28, the Honorable James H. Douglas, Under Secretary of the Air Force,
will visit in the Division. He will be given a general review of the B-58 and
125A programs.
The continued visits to our facility by distinguished persons is indication of
the growing interest in our programs and of the real importance of them.
Our absenteeism of salaried employees is good and continues to improve. This is
most commendable. However, absenteeism of hourly employees is not so good.
During the quarter ending June 30, it was 3.6%. This is worse than any quarter
since 1954. This is something we must all work on.
Now, of all times, it is most important that everybody be on the job five days a
week, eight hours a day. Only your persistent attention to this matter can
improve it .
As everybody in the aircraft industry knows, noise level in certain operations be-
comes an increasing problem. We have taken preliminary steps toward completing
a hearing conservation program for areas of high noise level here at the Division.
Among other things, this program will include an examination of the individual,
prior to an assignment in a high noise level area, to evaluate hearing. People
on such assignments will also be given periodic follow-up examinations. Specific
and adequate personal protection equipment will be furnished these people while
on the job. Also, steps are being taken to reduce noise at the source. Studies
of new methods and applications in this area will continue.
