ISSUED WEEKLY TO ALL SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL - - - -" No. 660
18 March 1964
FINAL COMMUNITY Fort Worth and other Tarrant County communities
POLIO IMMUNIZATION have conducted two successful polio immuniza-
tion programs. Type I polio immunization was
given in 1961. In January 1964, 75 per cent of the people in the area
received Type III. Type II oral vaccine was dispensed at 57 polio
clinic sites throughout the community on 15 March and will be offered
again on 22 March from Noon to 6:00 P.M. Emphasize to employees the
importance of participation in this final immunization program. Our
physicians say that only those who have received all three types immun-
ization will have maximum protection against polio.
MCNAMARA GIVES At a Washington press conference recently,
FULL BACKING TO Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara gave the
F-lll F-111 a strong endorsement. He said, in part,
"Requirements of the Navy, Marine Corps and
Air Force for the F-111 have all increased above the levels...we have
reported to you previously. I believe we can reduce them...back to-
ward the level of something on the order of 1500 that we have discussed
previously. . . . The aircraft is progressing through its development
schedule very well indeed. . . . As you might have expected at this
stage in the development, we have some weight problems on both the Air
Force and Navy planes. They do not appear serious."
SWIP PROGRESS The "Super Weight Improvement Program" con-
CONTINUES tinues to whittle weight from the F-111. The
effort is now beginning to move out from engi-
neering into departments responsible for integrating these changes in-
to the aircraft. Broad and vigorous support from downstream depart-
ments is required in holding firmly to cost and schedule targets.
SPECIFICATION The GD/FW Specification Identification, Review
REVIEW and Value Analysis Team completed its ninety
COMPLETED day assignment on Friday, 6 March. This pio-
neering type of review is one of the signifi-
cant activities in our expanded cost reduction program. The team pro-
posed savings which were impressive. Results indicate that this ap-
proach can be of great benefit to the customer and to the Division.
Many items were identified which offer promising potential for addi-
tional savings as a result of further study.
