ISSUED TO ALL SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL . . . . . . . . . No. 838
October 28, 1970
CONTROL OF REJECTED Aircraft purchased parts, removed due to mal-
PURCHASED PARTS function or damage, cost as much as the good
parts that fly away with the product. When a
rejected part is not processed promptly, and therefore is not returned
to its place in the repair cycle, it often means that the real cost of
the good part is at least doubled. We cannot afford to pay twice for
any part. This is true of less expensive parts, as well as high-dollar
items. The situation becomes serious if the rejected part is already in
short supply. It becomes critical when the rejected part is a limited
effectivity item.
It is necessary that supervision take action to ensure proper and timely
processing of rejected purchased parts. Constant surveillance and immedi-
ate response is essential. "Misplaced" parts create unnecessary costs
which we must eliminate.
