Hill of tho Now York Life Insur-
anco company will meot in con-

will bring to Waco a largo number
of active and progressive men.
At four o'cloik this morning fire
broke out in tho K-cond story of thu
Central hotel in East Waco. The
department got there promptly
and did ?uch eflicient work that tho
burning as confined almost exclu-
sively to the up stairs.-! There tho
ruiu was complete. Djwn-bta'rs
tho iii e got in very littlo work
though it broke through tho ceiling
in a tew places. Everything down-
stair? howover that water could
permeate was thoroughly soaked
and tho ruin was quite complete.
Tho hotel consisted of tho whole
of one two-story building and the
up stairs of another tho lower lloor
of the latter being occupied by Sim
Harris' saloon
Tho hotel was run by S. T. Tate
and the furniture aud fixings be-
longed to him. lie sayn -hat he
had cost him over .l.O'iO aud ho
was insured for f800.
T. F. Johnson occupied three
rooms up-stairs the furniture in his
rooms belonging to himself. His
loss is probably close to $1000 and
his insurance 00.
Ernest Helmrick a son-in-law of
Mr. Tale was living in tho house.
Ilia loss on furniture piano and
clothing was $300 or $000; insur-
anco -l'00.
Sam Harris was a pretty heavy
loser from water. Much of his
htock was destroyed by reason of
the fact that the whisky barrols
stood on end with open bungs in
tho upper head. Ho carries &S0O
insurance.
Tho buildings were damaged to
that except the walls which are
intact they are practically worth
less.
Tho one occupied wholly by the
hotel belongs to Mr. B. Nally. He
carried l:.'00 insurance. It is
taid ho allowed $1200 more to ex-
pire at U o'clock yesterday.
Tho other buildings belonged to
Mrs. 11. P. Chamborliu who car-
ried $-J000 insurance.
Tho Central hotel was a land-
mark in East Waco. It was op6ned
up there some twenty years ago
when it was considered quite a fine
place of public entertainment.
Thoro seems to bo no theory
alloat as to how tho fire originated.
