J. 1) Payne Committed Suicide at his
'Home This Morning.
J. B. Pay no a well known citi-
zen of Waco committed suicide
about s o'clock this morning by
shooting himself through tho head
The other members of tho family
weio all up and in various other
partB of tho house when a pistol
shot was heard in his room. They
ran thero immediately and found
him lying in tho bod from which
ho had not risen quito dead.
His right hand lay across his
bro-sr aud clenched in its tighten-
ing gf "p was a pistol of laigo cali-
bre wtiiw -I urribltf hole in either
tomplo tdd its awful talo of
death.
Justico Gallagher was quickly
euiuinoutd aud a thorough exami
nation was made of all tho surround
ings which wore fow and plain.
The rovolvor a new ono had ono
empty chamber and tho course of
tho bullet discharged therefrom was
found to bo in at tho right temple
through tho brain and out at tho
left temple. De3th wasinstaneous.
The verdict returned was in ac-
cordance with the facts set forth.
From the best information that
can bo gathered it seems that tho
suicide was the result of hard times
in business aided by tho inlluence
of ill hoalth upon a naturally nerv-
ous temperament.
Mr. Payne who dealt in musical
instruments sold his goods on
credit and when oroditors pressed-
him ho was unable to make his col-
lections meet their demands. Some-
timo ago he hurt one of his hands
so badly that it caused him groat
pain then ho took grippe and the
aggregation of ills seem to have
been more than ho could bear.
lie was down town yesterday
and evidently purchased then tho
pistol with which he destroyed
himself as his family know noth-
ing of his having such a weapon.
Mr. Payne had been a citizen of
Waco for almost 20 yoars aud was
well known to all the people of tho
city. lie loaves a ' wife and a
number of children to mourn his
untimely end.
The funeral will be at the resi-
dence on North Sixth street at :s
o'clock tomorrow Rev. Frank

Mr. Frank iiiill Tells oi His Itcstoration
aim! Dr. .1. J. Manna's (iold Cure-
"For the past six years I have
been a steady drunkard" remarked
Mr. Frank Bull to a Nicws man
this morning at tho Hotel Royal.
"I am confident that enough whis-
ky has flowed down my throat to
lloat tho Great Eastern. It was no
unusual thing for mo to consume
fioni a pint to a quart of whisky
boforo bieakfast aud from thirty-
live to fifty drinks during the day.
Tho fact of the business I was
drunk nearly all the timo. My very
blood had become tainted with
alcohol. 1 have tried as hard as
ever a man could try to stop drink-
ing tho vilo stull' but to no purpose.
Tho desire for drink would be as
great at tho end of two weekH aa at
tho flrat. My mind became all'eoted.
1 met Dr. McKanna eooii after ho
came to Waco and havo been taking
his treatment just throo days and
feel no inclination whatever to take
a drink. I don't want it and would
not take one for any consideration.
I feel too like a new man. My
family is happy and I am happy.
If Dr. MoKanna's treatmont has
dono that much for me in three
days what will it do in three weeks?
It makes my blood thrill with de-
light in anticipation of what is to
be. I would strongly advise every
drinking man to put himself at once
undor Dr. McKanna's treatment "
