The Sabbath Dells.
The dear old bells! How grand Is
their sweet yet solemn music as
their brazen throats nnd Iron tongues
ring out on tho bright spring morn
the calls 10 worship jrlm who gave the
Biinshluu nnd the birds nnd tho balm-
ly air.
What countless thousands have re-
sponded to their call and then pass-
ed away and other countless thou-
sands came who again passed on for
countless thousands more. Our lives
nro short tiro bells will chime for
ngea then heed their admonitions.
God bless the chimos; how many
hearts have their music melted! How
many thoughts presented of the past
how many directed to tho future to
etornity! Their music Is an exonera-
tion that lifts tho soul from out Us
lethargy aud ehames the sins within
us. They remind us of our faults
not rudely but with tho gentle touch
of harmony and peace nnd a dreamy
bliss steals o'er us as we listen to
tho sounds nnd remember tho prom-
ise of forgiveness and music upon
the Joy nnd purity of Christian life.
How many gray-haired sires this
morning list to the church bell chorus
and muse on the sounds they'll make
for their last knoll It can't bo long
at most they know. They dream of
the past ot the pleasures and pains
the hopes and fears and know that
the time draws near when thoy must
learn the Bccret ot eternity llut tho
bells are chiming! "Coino unto mo
all yo that Tire weary nnd heavy ladea
and I will glvo jou rest."
How many aged and widowed
mothers aro this morning seated In
the old arm chairs where the sun
streams In and pensively musing un-
der the spell of the time when their
knell struck upon their cars and with
agony fairly rent their souls; ot tlio
struggle to say as the ground closed
o'er their forms: "Thy will 0 Lord.
not mine be done." But tho bolls
now chime. "Ho doeth all things
well" and In the bright heavens no
portents come.
How many of the middle-aged nre
listening to tho hells with their gen
tle reminder that in tho biiBtlo nnd
strlfo of life there Is a duty duo a
religious lovo and revorenco to Him
who snith "I am tho way; follow mo
and I will glo you light ayd life?"
How many a youth will listen to
Ibe uel's which shame him for his
dissipation aud faults and turn hU
thoughts to lessons that his mother
taught him at her knee and of the
bright future she drew for him as
a Christian man?
How many maidens fair aro listen-
ing to tho hells Hrst dreaming ot
their merry marriage peals and then
to think of the crowning glory of
true womanhood true Christianity?
How many prattling chlldien clap
tholr tiny hands In glee or staro with
wonder-opened eyes nt tho steeple
as tho bells ring out for them "Suffer
llttio children to couio unto mo and
forbid them not for ot Buch Is thu
kingdom ot heaven?"
Illesscd aro the bells! May thoy
iklnko on to etornity and turn our
thoughts away to tlio Puttier tho pro-
tector tho hope of all and our foot-
steps toward His shrine. San An-
tonio Express.
Religion the Scfenece of Human
Relations.
"Our religion as wo seo It Is largely
a sort of science of Unman relation.

great cry In politics la tor u uquare
deal and that Is Just the Golden Jtulu
In different languugo. I read this
month In a newspaper In a news
paper published In New York that
'tho moral sense ot tho country Is in
revolt against all kinds of extortion-
nto business' and that It has 'ceased
to bo right- to roalco all tbo money

of the country.' Everywhere I think
I sea slgDS of that tplrtt. Nobody
asks tor an pqual division of luu

been observed and I think; most
