Congratulations
Mr, and Mrs. Ewald Effen-
berger of Victoria are happy to
announce the arrival of their
second daughter at the local
hospital Sept. 14, weight 7
pounds, 2 ounces. She has been
given the name Cynthia Ann.
So with Sarah Jane there are
now two queens in the home.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank F. Kloe-
sel of Moulton are happy over
the birth of a wee son, born at
the local hospital Sept. 17,
weight 9 pounds, 4 ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Wag-
ner of Hallettsville are receiv-
ing congratulations upon the
arrival of a son, born Sept. 14
at the local hospital, weight 8
pounds, 1 ounce.
Mr. and Mrs. Adolph J. Ku-
sak are the parents of a young
son, born at the local hospital
Sept. 14, weight 8 pounds, 2
ounces.
JOTS FROM S.L.A.
The S. L. A. Cardinals motor-
ed to Yoakum to battle St.
Joseph’s softball team last Fri-
day for the first game of the
season. Bolech, pitcher for St.
Joseph’s, won his first victory.
Adamek and Filip were the
pitchers for S. L. A. There were
two home runs made in the
game. One by Joe Kahanek of
St. Joseph’s in the fifth inning
and one by Adamek of S. L. A.
in the third inning. The score
was 18 to 14. Father Wagner is
our coach and Paul Vrazel
captain. Here is hoping for bet
ter luck next time. We need
more team work.

ing her daughters, Misses Pat-

weekend guests in the A. A.

Mr. and Mrs. Elton Riske of
Houston spent the weekend in
Shiner and Runge.

Sunday in Hallettsville with
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Cook.
The Knights of Columbus are
staging a game party Sunday,
beginning at 3 plm. at Legion
Park. Everybody invited.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert B. Ley
and sons and Mrs. Frank Bent-
ley of Cuero were guests of Mrs.
Delka Denmark Tuesday eve-
ning.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kowalik,
daughter, Frances Elaine, and
Beverly Ann of San Antonio,
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Otto
Hurta and_ Elaine Sunday.
Senator Gus Strauss honored
the staff with a delightful call
Monday on the occasion of his
speaking engagement for Rotary
Club.
Mrs. O. A. Kosler, R. N., has
accepted a position on the per-
manent staff of the Wagner
Hospital.
Mrs. Max L. Wolters under-
went surgery Monday morning
at the local hospital for an ap-
pendectomy. Her numerous
friends will be gratified to
learn that she is responding
nicely.
Mrs. James Turk of Gonzales
is visiting Mrs. Lewis Turk.
Both ladies were appreciated
callers on the Gazette Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. William Davis
Cunningham of Clovis, New
Mexico, are the proud parents
of a baby boy, born at the Me-
morial Hospital in Clovis, N. M.,
Friday, Sept. 16, weight eight
pounds. He will answer to the
name, of William Davis. This
makes Mr. and Mrs. Henry C.
Weitzel of Shiner and Mr. and
Mrs. W. G. Cunningham of
Pampa grandparents for the
first time and Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Weitzel great-grand-
parents for the first time. Mrs.
Cunningham will be recalled as
the former Miss Dorothy Mae
Weitzel.
The girls of S. L. A. have al-
so started with their volley
hall. They have unanimously
chosen Evelyn Spann as cap-
tain. Georgia Kouba was chosen
as co-captain. We know that
with these girls as captain and
co-captain they will build up
a good, strong team and will
try their best in all the games
that are to come ,in the future.

day night at Legion Park.

Mrs. Elizabeth Gerdes of
Corpus Christi spent Saturday
with Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Balu-
sek.
Representatives from the Shi-
ner Baptist Church who at-
tended the annual session of the
Gonzales Baptist Association
meeting with First Baptist
Church, Hallettsville, Tuesday
and Wednesday were Rev. and
Mrs. L. R. Stephens, Mrs. Al-
bert Bargman, Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Runk, Miss Emma
Runk, Mrs. Ray Seale, C; J.
Waldrep, Thomas Hughs. The
Woman’s Missionary Auxiliary
convened at the same time.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Steiner
returned Sunday from a brief
visit in Houston.
Mrs. A. L. Fuller writes from
San Antonio where she has
been visiting for several weeks
to change the address on her
Gazette to her home in Texar-
kana.

Sept. 18 when friends and rel-
atives called to extend congra-
tulations.

cupied the time. A sandwich

coffee, cookies and iced drinks
was served.
