GRAMMAR SCHOOL ACTIVITY
Miss Rand’s Pupils have been
working very industriously for the
past two weeks on "Cotton Booklets.
Each day a story pertaining to cot-
ton is added, and pictures were
drawn illustrating their stories. They
are now teady to begin work on miid
projects.
Miss McDonald with the aid of
her pupils is now decorating their
room with Lincoln and Washington
projects. Valentines are also being
used to brighten up the room since
St. Valentines’ Day is coming’ soon.
Some pupils are now reading in
first grade readers.

The Levelland Dobators went to
Littlefield Thursday night to debate
the Debate Club at that place. The
debators, Orville Shofner. Vernon
Turner. Thelma Payne and Clothile
Jenkins and their sponsor, Miss Car-
rie Shannon, went to Littlefield on

The Home Economics Club re-
cently picked the cast for the annual
Home Economics Play. The date
has not been decided upon yet, but
it. will be in the near future. Mrs.
Hastings! the sponsor, states that the
proceeds will go to the club fund,
part of which will be used later to
send a representative to the State
Contest.

the people of this community a real
sermon Sunday morning and night.
He was accompanied by his wife and
children. We certainly enjoyed hav-
ing them with us.
Sunday afternoon a few' bf Hodges
folks went to Smyer to the singing
convention. There was sortie wond-
erful singing. Singing is something
most everyone enjoys.

Family, who have lived in this com-
munity for several years, have mov-
ed away We will miss them and
hopP them lots of luck where they
are going.
Mr. and Mis.. I. H. Morrow’s tiny
daughter, Jimmie Fay. is sick this
week. We hope it won’t be long till
she is better.
Every one out this way feels at
home since the nice sand storm Sat-
urday. Several outhouses were
blown over, but no special damage
was done except to fill up the houses
with some nice rlean sand—we don’t
mind that.
We are glad to learn we are to
have Mrs. Anderson back for our
mail carrier. She .and her daughter
have given the very best of service
since they have been on this route.
We have learned to love them and
was a visitor in several homes out
this way while here.
Mr. an Mrs. I. H. Marrow have
several on the sick list this week.
We hope they axe soon on the roa<t
to recovery.
The W. A. Dykes Gin 7 miles east
of town was completely destroyed by

Passes Away Friday
Valley View friends were sadden-
ed Friday when word was received
here that Mrs. S. F. Gilley, wlfe of
C. D. Gilley, of this community had
died at 5:05 o’clock at Corpus Christi,
funeral services were held at Whit-
harral Saturday evening, 5 ° clock,
by Bro. Allen, of the Church of
Christ, but owing to the large
crowd the services were read in the
school auditorium. _
Sarah Frances Strasner was born
August 22, 1871 at NaShville, Ark.,
being 67 years old at the time of her
^Deceased is survived by her hus-
band. C. D. Gilley, a son and daugh-
__ef by a recent, mamage, R. I- Jack-
son El Reno. Oklahoma, and Mrs.
G. H. Gilley of Littlefield, and the
following step children: /’

During her several years m this
community, she was dearly ov
by every one who knew her. She
was kind and loving and very
charitable to those less fortunate and
her sudden death is much regretted,
by a host of friends who extend to
the bereaved ones a profound and
heartfelt sympathy.

ter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lawhon,
who live northeast of town, was ser-
iously ill with pneumonia during the
early part of the week.
