police that the suspect entered
the store arid started demanding
money. Although he never
pointed a gun at her he showed
her a handgun in his coat pocket,
the clerk said.
The suspect is described as
white, between 20 to 30 years of
age and about 5 feet 10 inches
tall. He weighs about 130 pounds,
according to the description, and
has brown hair.

The date of Joseph Fordham’s
murder trial is expected to be set
in a pre-trial hearing at 9 a.m'
Wednesday in the 183rd District
Court, defense attorney Robert
Bridgewater said.
A year ago Tuesday, Fordham
was taken into custody by
Baytown police in connection
with the murder of 11-year-old
Mary Stiles.
The girl disappeared on Hallo-
ween night in 1985 and was found
dead 10 days later in a wooded
area behind the apartment com-
plex where she lived.
, An autopsy revealed she had
been stabbed, strangled and
asphyxiated.
Fordham. who also lived at the
apartment complex, was 16 at
the time of the slaying. He was
later certified to stand trial as an
adult and was indicted for
murder by a Harris County
grand jury.
The youth has entered a plea
of innocent to the charge.
The hearing Wednesday is ex-
pected to end a series of pre-trial
hearings heard by Judge Joseph
Guarino. Ted Wilson is pro-
