PRUNE CHUTNEY
2 cups diced apples
IV2 cups sliced onions
1 cup diced green pepper
1 clove garlic, pressed
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup water
A cup sugar
A cup packed dark brown

1. In large saucepan combine ap-
ples, onions, green pepper, garlic,
vinegar, water and sugars. Bring
to boil; reduce heat and simmer 15
minutes, stirring occasionally.
2. Mix in remaining ingredients.
Heat to boiling; reduce heat and
simmer 15 minutes until liquid is
syrupy. Cool and refrigerate,
covered. Or ladle hot chutney in-
to hot. sterilized canning jars and
seal, following manufacturer's in-
structions. Process in hot water
bath for 15 minutes. Store in cool
place. Recipe may be doubled.

from your own
kitchen is a truly

tempting recipes designed to
be put together in a twinkling.
These will all look their best
prettily packaged with ribbon,
holly, and a little note. Afibther
thoughtful idea is to include
the recipe along with the gift.
3 (6-oz.) pkgs. semi-sweet
chocolate bits
1 (14-oz.) can sweetened
condensed milk (not
rated milk)
poon vanilla
Finely chopped nuts,
flaked coconut, chocolate
sprinkles, unsweetened
cocoa
1. In heavy saucepan, over loW
heat, melt chocolate chips with
sweetened condensed milk.
Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.
2. Chill mixture 2 hours or until
firm. Shape into 1-inch balls; roll
in any of the above coatings. Chill
1 hour or until firm. Store covered

Amaretto Tmffies: Orftit vanilla
and add 3 tablespoons Amaretto
liqueur and 'A teaspoon almond
extract. Roll in finely chopped
toasted almonds.
Microwave method: In a 1-quart
glass measure, combine chips and
sweetened condensed milk. Micro-
wave on full power 3 minutes, stir-
ring after \A minutes. Stir until
smooth. Proceed as above.
BOURBON BALLS
2 cups confectioners’ sugar,
divided
2V4 cups finely crashed vanilla
wafers (about 60 wafers)
1 cup finely chopped
walnuts or pecans
2 tablespoons unsweetened
cocoa
Va cup bourbon
3 tablespoons corn syrup
1. In a large bowl, combine 1 cup
confectioners' sugar and remain-
ing ingredients.
2. Sift remaining cup confec-
tioners' sugar onto a sheet of wax-
ed paper. Using your hands, shape
mixture into 1-inch balls; roll each
in sugar. For best storing, wrap
each Dali in a small square of
plastic film or foil.
Makes about 3/2 dozen
1 egg white, beaten slightly
1 tablespoon water
3 cups pecan halves
A cup sugar
A teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 teaspoon ground
cinnamon
A teaspoon ground cloves
A teaspoon ground nutmeg
1. In small bowl, beat together egg
white and water. Stir in pecans,
stirring until all surfaces are
moistened.
2. Mix together sugar, salt, cin-
namon
sprinkle over pecans, mixing well.
Spread pecans on a lightly greased
or foil-lined cookie sheet and bake
in preheated 300 F oven for 30
minutes. Stir once or twice to crisp
and dry pecans evenly.
Makes 3 cups
