Credit Situation '
in Texas Better
Call Rates Get Slight Upward
Revision As Loans Called
Are Payed
AUSTIN, July 15.'(Sp)-.-A further
easing of credit conditions and low-
er Interest rates were the most Im-
portant developments in the financial
situation of Texas during June, ac-
cording to Bervard Nichols, editor of
the Texas Business Review. .
__“Mid-year payments, although un-
usually large, caused only.- a temporary
upward revision. Of call rates," Mr.
Nichols said. "Bankers and corpora-
tions -had anticipated these large pay-
ments and were prepared to make
them. As a result, only a few loans
were called on July 1, and the funds-,
were supplied with but a little effect
on the market. Money began return-
ing a few days after first of the month
BO that call rates soon deoil;
the 6 an$ 7 percent ldvel.”

NEW YORK, July J6. (INS)—A wo-
man may be the next mayor of New' {
York City? ,
Not as unlikely as it might seem on
first thought. In fad. certain pow-
erful elements in the republican party
are advocating Mrs. Ruth Baker Pratt,
New York Congressw oman , to run
against Mayor Jitnmy Walker on Nor
vember 5. ' ’ ‘
Mrs. Pratt herself refuses—positively
to say yes or no on the question of
whether or not she will be a candi-
date.
Her very silence is regarded by pol-

She already has proved she knows
her politics. She is a vote-getter. She
comes from the '‘silkstocking district”
which gave her a big vote when she
was elected aldefman and also when
she was elected congresswom/in,
