A Baytown man suffered head
and leg injuries when his bicycle
ran into the rear of a school bus
that was stopped to let out its
last passenger about 4:02 p.m.
Tuesday, Baytown police said.
Paul Stanley Barrow, 20, of
1803 Gillette, was taken to San
Jacinto Methodist Hospital by
Navarre’s Baytown Ambulance
Service.
Officer Paul Schaffer said
Barrow was wearing a radio
headset and was riding his bicy-
cle with his head down when he
hit the rear of a Goose Creek
school bus driven by Cleo Smith
of Baytown. The bus, with its red
emergency flashers on, was
stopped in the 1000 block of
Tenth Street letting out its last
student passenger when it was
struck, Schaffer reported.
Barrow was charged with
following too close, the officer
said.
Three people were also hurt in
a 12:30 p.m. Tuesday wreck at
Decker and Baker, police said.
Virginia Pierson, 22, and her
passengers, Cecilia Pierson, 6,
and Robert Pierson, 2, all of 510
Williams, were taken to Gulf
Coast Hospital by private car.
Officer R. Fowler said Ms.
Pierson was eastbound on
Decker and had stopped for a
red light at the Baker Road in-
tersection when her car was"
struck from behind by another
eastbound vehicle driven by
Peter D. Kinser of 106 Scott.

“The Galveston site is closest
to open sea and probably has the
greatest mix of urban assets —
the medical center, schools,
housing and cultural assets,”
said Focke. “Most importantly,
there is Todd Shipyards and the
support industries for the off-
shore oil industry.”
lAitchell said he wants to build
art area if he can acquire
the Fort Point land.
“I visualize that the site
behind the seawall could be used
for probably the finest mhrina in
the entire Gulf area - but you’d
have plenty of room for the Navy
base there too,” Mitchell said.
“There would be enormous in-
terest because it’s right there at
the entrance to the bay. ”
Mitchell said the resort pro-
ject could cost as much as a half-
billion dollars to develop.
“I think probably a land ar-
rangement could be worked
out,” Mitchell said. “But I don’t
know how yet. So I think they
can offer everything except a
finalized, constructed place to
berth the ships. I think that cost
would have to come from the
Navy.”
Galveston Mayor Jan Cog-
geshall said the city’s goal is to
“get the land back into private
hands.”
“The city has the obligation to
provide spoil areas. It’s the
law,” she said. “George Mitchell
is about the only person who has
the ability to provide land we
could swap.”

Gurdus, who said earlier radio
traffic led him to believe incor-

from Tehran, said the pilot could
be heard on the radio saying:
“This is an emergency. We want_-

A Bahrain airport official

the pilot, whose appeals went
unanswered by Kuwait.
The pilot’s conversation was

Gurdus’ monitoring room.
