For the birds
Brett Hovaldt found more than axle grease when he put a
U.S. Steel truck up on his rack and pulled off the wheel.
The mechanic discovered a nestful of baby birds, tucked
behind the spring, had survived about 15 miles of travel-
ing from the location where the truck had been sitting
unused for several weeks. A US Steel security officer re-
trieved the nest and babies and delivered them safety in
the hands of a U.S. Wildlife Department staffer to be
raised in a safe (and immobile) incubator.
