Mr. John Sayles, Atty..
Abilene, Texas-
Dear Mr,Sayles:-
Upon my return home today froma trip to the
Valley I found yours of the 2Rnd inst - with
enclosures.
Of course, I gre tlj appreciate the nice letter
you wrote to Pearson about me.
I had a letter from Pearson about ten days ago
in which he stated he was inclined to engage the
services of a good Texas lawyer and take him to
St. Paul in charge of the Texas Pleading and
Practice, rather than to have the work done here
in San Antonio; but that nothing definite had
been decided.
I wrote to him at once urging him to try to make a
deal with you to take charge, altho I told him I
was not sure if you will be interested in going to
St.Paul for a year or more. Frankly, doubt if
they can make it financially attractive to you.
The whole trouble is that the editorial and
mechanical costsof a local work is just as great
as the costs of one that is sold all over the
country. Obviously the mechanical costs can not
be cut down at all, so publishers are compelled to
cut down editorial costs on local publications.
I certainly hope a plan can be worked out whereby
you can have charge of this work ,and s.all
continue hammering away at Pearson along these
lines.
Pearson has not been at all well recently, and
has been away from the office a good deal on
account of his health"
.i th very best wishes, I am
Sincerely yours,
M. B. Wi lhoi t .
