A srECiVL to the News from
Waco saj s that at the meeting of
the executive committee the fact
wusdovclopcdthat there is strong
opposition to Ireland in somo quar
ters of North Texas. It is assont-

Johnson was opposed to the consti

The Houston Ago is a power at

The Kemp levee on the Missis

000 negroes and it is estimated
that 50000 of them will be depend-

was asked what he would do if it
was all his own. After stuttering
while he gasped out "I'd go
down to Aurora and start a daily

of the ambition ofa country editor
is to start a daily paper. In Tex-

been started m tho past three
months and not ono of thorn had a
capital of even one million dollars

"The pistol must go" is by no
means as new as somo persons
would suppose. Tho Dallas Herald
has been shown a copy of the
Petersburg Intelligencer of Decem-

item stating that Berry Green was
arrested forbcing"drunk and trj ing
to tear down the town. A horse
pistol was found on his person
and tho editor remarked that such
conduct must be frowned down.
So it would seem that tho practice
of carrying pistols has been frown
ed upon smco tho year 1800 and is
not frowned out of existence yet
though popular scntimont against
tho pistol is stronger than evor bo
fore.

THURSDAY APRIL
For the information of the Hous-
ton Age. which paper takes a deep
interest in Washington county af-
fairs we would state that Wash-
ington county will have a new
courthouse notwithstanding the
decision of the supreme court
which by the Way decides that tho
commissioners can under tho law
of 1884 issue bonds to build a couit-
housc. As tho Banner has here
tofore stated the courthouse will
probably be built without the ii
suo of bonds. All that has been
accomplished so far by the injunc
tion suit is to delay the building
which the grand jury Rays in its
report to the destrict court at the
prcsont time is absolutely neces
sary.
Senator Coke's bill providing
for tho allotment of lands in se cr-
ally to Indians on the various re
servations and to extend tho pro-
tection of tho laws of tho States
and Territories ovor them has
passed the senate. It will havo
the effect of breaking up tho tribal
relations of the Indians and will
make every Idian a citizen and dc-.
pendent upon his own exertions
for a living. It will also break up
tho great Indian land reservations.
The bill docs not apply to tho five
tribes in tho Indian Tcrritoiy
their treaties with thogovcrnmont
forbids it. It is howovcr only
a question of timo how soon the
Indian Territory treaty will be
set aside or tho Indians bought
out and that fine country bo
thrown open for settlement.
It is stated that the whereabout.-)
ofa noted fugitivo from justice of
Central Toxas is known to sc or-
al officers of Waco but as thero is
no reward offered for his arrest
and dclivory the officers do not
caro to incur the expense and
trouble of his arrest. It is likely
that tho man referred to is Tom
Yarnell charged with the murder
of old man Land near Hubbard
City Hill count- somo time ago.
It is simply a disgraco to the stato
that Yarnell has not been arrested
and tried long ago. A dastardly
murdor wai committed by some
ono and Yarnell has been indicted
for the crime; but up to this day
he lias not been arrested and it is
not apparent that any particlar ef-
fort has been made to arrest him.
In a year or two more it is likely
that he wiIIcomein and voluntari-
ly surrender and he will be tried
and acquitted.

A Cincinnati dispatch of Friday
states that a mob of 10000 outrag-
ed citizens attacked tho jail and in
spite of the polico and tho militia
effected an entrance to it and at
last accounts 12:45 a. m. Saturday
they bad fired the jail and said they
would cut tho Jiose to prevent the
firo 'department from extinguishing
the flames. A number of murder-
ers wero confined in tho jail. It
appears that tho masses of the peo-
ple aro very indignant at the ver-
dict rondored in the caso of Bergor
charged with murder and who got
off with a light penitentiary sen-
tence. Tho prevclence of the crimo
of murdor in this country and tho
necessity of more certainty in tho
administration of punishment for
crimo was dwelt upon by a speaker
at a mass meeting just previous to
the mob turning out. Bcrgcr was
disguised and carried off by tho
officers; if ho had fallen into tho
hands of tho mob ho would havo
bocn hanged to a certainty.

bitter still in the face of nearly
twenty years' peace and the cry
from tho South for the auton-

ly being met by thom with fodcral
interference of tho most flagrant
kind. Thoy have always done and

a view to carry out the programme
