A Baytown police sergeant was
assaulted in a Market Street bar
early Friday.
Police were sent to handle a dis-
turbance in the Blue Star Bar
about 1:20 a.m. The street patrol
supervisor, Sgt. Martha Treloar,
was one of those who arrived in
time to see the two suspects run
out of the Blue Star and down
Market Street. Treloar headed af-
ter one of the suspects, who
ducked into another bar. She
caught up to him inside, but again
he evaded her. She caught up with
him though and when she con-
fronted him, he swung at her. She
was carrying her flashlight be-
cause she’d been chasing him in a
dark area. She put that arm up to
block off the blow and the suspect
hit her arm, driving the hand with
the flashlight towards her head.
The suspect was then taken into
custody and Treloar taken to a
hospital. Other officers chased
and arrested the second suspect.
Treloar was treated and released
from the hospital and returned to
duty sporting a large hematoma
on her forehead. Her assailant was
charged with public intoxication
