Funeral services for Clark E.
Botkin, 81, of Baytown will be
held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June
24, 1995, at Navarre Funeral
Chapel with the Revs. Steve
James and Billy Joe Tate officiat-
ing.
Botkin died on Wednesday, June
21, at a local hospice center.
He was bom on Jan. 10, 1914,
in Spencerville, Ohio and had
lived here since 1937.
Botkin was a member of
Memorial Baptist Church and the
Goose Creek Country Club. Upon
retiring from M.W. Kellog, after
40 years of service, he returned
with the company as a consultant
at several refineries across the
USA and recently had been
requested to go to Russia on a
petro-chemical consulting posi-

A private memorial service for
Carmen Patricia Carrico, 43, of
Highlands will be held on Satur-
day, June 24,1995, at the home of
a family member in Onalaska.
Ms. Carrico passed over on
Tuesday, June 20, in a Houston
hospital.
She was bom on Sept. 14,1951,
in Kilgore and had been a long-
time resident of Highlands.
She was preceded in death by
her daughter, Juanita Karlene
Espinosa and her parents, Laverle
and Charlsie Rae Carrico of
Lufkin.
She is survived by her daugh-
ters, Shelley Espinosa Nichols and
husband Paul of Crosby, Jennifer
Lee Deshayes of Dayton; sisters,
Norma Jean Zbranek and husband
Robert of Baytown, Charlene
Faulkner and husband Larry of
Onalaska and Retha Jo Zbranek
and husband George of Austin;
brother, Harold Ray Carrico of
Dayton; one grandson, John David
Nichols; a very special friend, Mr.
Gale Benham of Highlands; and
serveral nieces and nephews.
Cremation was held on Thurs-
day, June 22.

“Danny” Lee Sims Sr., 55, will be
held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 23,
1995, at Schmitz-Floyd-Anderson
Chapel in Denton with the Revs.

Sims died in Pine Bluff, Ark.
He was born on Sunday, Sept.

College and Kansas State Teach-
ers College. He also had attended
Texas A&M University.
He is survived by wife Monteze
Botkin; daughters and sons-in-law,
Sally and Mike Bargainer of Cros-
by and Ann and Dr. Dave Hench
of Orange, Calif.; grandchildren,
Bryan and Debi Jacobs of Glen-
dale, Calif., Melissa Bargainer of
Houston and Clinton Bargainer of
College Station; great-grandchild,
Lauren Sue Jacobs; sister,
Monzelle Parsons of Port Arthur;
brothers and sister-in-law, Ned and
Wanda Botkin of Trinity, F.C.
Botkin of Baytown; and numerous
nieces and nephews.

Gramm marches through GOP territory

vowed to bury GOP budget and
welfare bills if they aren’t changed
to suit him, and he also pledged to
thwart Dr. Henry Foster’s bid to
become suigeon general.
“I think we can serve the public
interest by saying ‘no,’” Gramm
said on the Senate floor, echoing
the argument he used during the
1994 health-care debate.
Republicans ended last year in a
frenzy of obstructionism, guessing
correctly that voters either
wouldn’t care or would blame the
Democratic majority for whatever
didn’t get done. Most of them
abandoned that approach when
they took over both chambers this
year.
Gramm, however, has settled on
a neo-obstructionist strategy that’s
having its greatest impact on Sen-
