bontinue to complain of the dog
uuisance and doubtless the work of
poisoning our surplus canine popu-
lation will soon begin; While "this
intybe a commendable plan In.some
respects- yet it is likely to prove dis-
astrous to owners of pet dogs which
are quite as likely to get a morsel of
poisoned meat as any street mon-
grel. It is impossible to make sure
of keeping dogs off the streets when
people entering one's yard are con-
stantly leaving gates open and al-
lowing them - to escape hence the
owners of fine dogs -who would
gladly keep them oS the streets are
very-liable to io's'e their pets. As a
remedy The Herai-d would .once
more suggest that the city impose a
dog tax obliging all owners of dogs
to put a collar with a license tag on
their animals and authorizing- the
police to slay all dogs seen on the
streets minus a license tag. This
plan is Commonly practiced Jn other
places and it is very effective in
dealing the streets of numerous
worthless curs. It also adds some-
thing to the city revenues.

With a better understanding ci tne
transient nature oy the many phys-

rightly directed. There is comfort in
the knowledge that so many forms of
sickness are not due to any actual dis-
ease but simply to a constipated condi-

family laxative Syrup of Figs prompt
lv removes. That is why it is the only
remedy with millions of families andis
everywhere esteemed so highly by alt
who value good health. Its beneficial
effects axe due to the fact that itis the
one remedy which promotes internal
cleanliness without debilitating the
organs oh which it acts. It is therefore
