E. M. I. Williams of 'Corpus
Christi is in the city to remain a
few days. Mr. Williams ha3 been
in Cameron county for several
months boring wells in different
portions of the count- lie has re-
cently purchased a section of school
land on the arroyo and will make
Cameron county his home.

The family of S. A. Belden sr.
experienced U fright last night about
nine o'clock. At that hour aIRs
Belden and a young lady w ho was
visiting her started tip-stairs from

the head of the stairs the said oung
lady struck a match to light a lamp
hanging there when her wrist was
rudely grabbed by some unseen per-
son who struck her a light blow in
the face. The match was extinguish
ed instantly and the young lady fell
down the stairs. In the fright ard
confusion which followed the in-
truder made his escape without bi.

in the bathtub at the time and so
could not reach the scene at once .
